Tires again
« on: March 26, 2012, 05:17:00 PM »

I know this has come up before but just in case something new has come out. What is the best tire for my 2012 Ultra? I have 8000 mile on the stock ones but want to be ready when the time comes and I'm sure it wont be long.

I replaced the front and rear tires at 17,500 miles on my 10 with the Dunlop  American Elite's..   (This was my first replacement of tires on the 2010)..  So far they (American Elie's) handle/ride like the stock tires.  Time will tell on the mileage.
On my 05, 8500 miles is all I could get on the rear.
Michelin and Metzeler also has tires available for 09 and later bikes.
My rear was cupped badly and not worn out.

There's another thread that's been running recently about the new Michelin Commander II tires.  They claim much better mileage than the Dunlop's, but we all know how claims often don't pan out in the real world.  In theory the Dunlop dual compound tires were supposed to get 15k, but I keep seeing posts around here where people say they are lucky to get 10k.  It's kind of strange to me, since I've always gotten around 11k on my SEEG with the old D402's, but maybe I don't ride as hard as some.  Plus my SEEG is about a hundred pounds lighter than the current CUSE models.

If your running the 18" CVO set up (180/55-18 rear and 130/70-18 front) bias ply tires and want to keep the same heavy load rating, your only choice is the OEM HD Dunlops- there literally are no other options in bias ply with the heavy load rating.

And I just checked rear tire prices today.  $281.95 plus install.  What a rip-off

The other day I was inspecting my bike and found a screw in the front tire Hd dunlop so I took it to the dealer so they could put a new one on and they said no problem they had one in stock a D408 130/70/18 , so when I got there to pick the bike up they said to me there is no charge , I forgot I had the tire warranty and I had 30,000 kms on it with 3/32 left on it, the new one has 5/32 tread depth, so I would say this is a great wearing tire.Spare cash now to buy something else.

Bike has 7600 miles on her and yesterday when I was checking the pressure ( I do it every 500 miles or so) I noticed a very bad wear pattern on the tire. Somewhat like the way the tires were wearing on my 2009. Anyone else?
