Greyghost, I have been using redline shockproof in the trans on my 95 Heritage for at least 5 years now and it shifts totally smooth. In my 09SEUC I use amsoil 75-140 and it seems to help quiet down 5th gear whine even when hot,(tried redline it didn't quiet it down as much ) in the engine both bikes get Amsoil 60 Wt racing oil. Primarys get HD Formula+. No problems. Very minimal oil use in  09. Just got back from 4000 mile trip in over 100 degree weather (that won't happen again) and I used less than half quart  engine oil on entire trip. This is a repeat , but just for the record my friend got 180,000 miles out of his 2001 heritage using HD dino 20-50 He changed oil and filter at 5000 mile intervals. Also he was still on his original drive belt. Then his balancer went out and took the engine with it. Too bad. I thought for sure he was going to make it to 200K. CAHDBIKER

Thanks CAHDBIKER . . . After going through all the information for this thread, I have scheduled my 1000 mile visit with Redline 20w-50 in the Motor, MTF in the Primary and Shockproof in the gearbox. There are so many opinions it is difficult to sift through it all. Overall Redline and Amsoil seem to keep popping to the top. One of the considerations I have is that I will soon start doing my own oil changes and wanted to pick one brand to simplify the purchasing process. Probably a small thing, but there it is. I am interested in your comment about the AmSoil 60wt. I can see the advantages when the motor gets REAL hot, which mine seems to do on warmer days. I may rethink my approach after getting my Fullsac pipes installed and see how the heat situation is.

Always something to think about!! Grey Ghost

Greyghost, regarding the amsoil 60 Wt. It does not pour out of the bottle thick like you think a straight 60 wt. would do. For example HD straight 60 Wt Dino pours out thick like honey.(I have not used that in my 09 of course).Ride Safe. CAHDBIKER

After reading so much oil related topics and reading what others have ran I decided for the first oil change in my 120R was going to be 20W-50 Mobil 1 Vtwin...After reading all the hype about the Amsoil I had read I and ran in in my 06 ultra and thought it was the cats meow, however, it sure was noisy...
So when it came time to change the fluid after my initial break in I choose Mobil 1...Although it performed well on a 3000 mile road trip I felt it wasn't the oil for me...The noise level once the fluid warmed up had allot of top end noise and I wasn't happy with that from lift noise to valve train noise it was there when the motor oil reached operating temps...
So when it was time to change fluids I decided to go with Red Line 20W-50 here in Texas and so far am really pleased with it...The lifter noise is gone and the valve train is now like a sewing machine on steroids (old clesha) very very quite as compared to what it was ...I think I may have found a winner...time will tell but first impressions are good...As far as primary since I'm running the Riviera pro Clutch and a SE Compensator I decided it was best to go with HD Formula 1 fluid...Tranny is the Spectra and I must say that when I left the Amsoil 75-140 Gear lube and thought how well it shifted with that fluid I was very impressed once again with the spectra gear lube...very positive results and allows the shifting irriguardless of  how hot the fluid has gotten as compared to the Amsoil which may of been getting thinner as the fluids got hotter, the Spectra hasn't shown these signs...I have since installed a hayden M6 in my primary and let me tell you going in and out of gear is the way it should be...very smooth...I likey very much...
My 2 cents on it

I had a friend that was always complaining about tranny and shifting noise on his 2004 Fatboy. He switched to Redline shockproof and is amazed at the difference in how his bike shifts now!!!!

I went with Schaffers, I was using Amsoil but had a Schaffers Rep. Come out. They will let you use your own oil and opp. The machine, I'm sold.

We've had the Red Line fluids here, in stock for the better part of 20 years now, and the Shockproof seem to work well, and you can pinpoint a leak with their pink dye, BUT, any 75-140 gear lube will tame the noise/shifting of these transmissions, vs that water, refered to as Syn III.
Spectro has a VERY good trans lube for the 6 spds. FWIW.

Similar thought different synthetic. Check out this link, read the section "Third Time's a Charm":

http://www.harley-performance.com/synthetic-oil.html

Also check the link with the wear test, the ASTM bearing test is a standard for lubricity:

http://www.harley-performance.com/amsoil-vs-harley.html

I switched to the three oil approach using the listed Amsoil synthetics with good results so far, less gear clunk for sure.

I switched from Amsoil to Redline in all 3 holes about 3000 miles ago. I guess Im lucky that my engine/lifters have never been that noisy, except for a brief time that it used to tick when cold.

Since the Redline, it has never ticked and is even quiter than before. It seems to be using less oil than before as well.

Used 20w-50 in all three holes, but after reading the articles, will consider the different viscosities ... My mechanic really likes the H-D synthetic lubricants, but now weary as the Syn3 can wear scar the metal more than the Amsoil ... It is an individual preference and nice to keep up the discussion here ..

Thanks,

I've run Redline Shockproof in my tranny and Redline MTL in my primary with absolutely no problems. I run Amsoil in the crankcase and the only difference that I noticed from the Mobil 1 I used to run is the blow by coming out of the breathers on my Wimmer velocity stack. And I'm not even sure if that's an oil thing or I romp on it more.
