I am always suspicious of self testing. Why is Red Line not on the list? because they were not in the top seventeen or they didn't want to show one that was actually better than theirs?
?
I don't have the answer just suspicious of self promoting testing results.
If you go to the site and read the entire report they explain how they came up with the brands they tested. Basically they chose the top selling brands at the time (I forget when the initial testing was conducted, the chart I posted is a 2009 update to the original). My answer to those who bring this up every time the report is mentioned is, if Redline really is better than Amsoil or the other top performers, why haven't they done their own tests and published the results? They are fully aware of this Amsoil sponsored report, and have commented on it, but have never offered to have the exact same tests run on their oil and then publish the full results. So while I never just blindly accept things like the Amsoil report, I also have no problem blowing off complaints from folks who bitch about the results but don't offer to provide the same test results for their product.
btw, if you look at the individual test rankings on the chart I posted, you might note that Amsoil did not come in at #1 in all the tests, and in fact came in with middling scores in a couple of them. Not exactly the sort of thing you would expect if all they were trying to do is mislead people. Read the full report, note that they fully explain each test and what industry standards were used, and then realize that anyone who sells a different brand and believed those results were bogus could easily duplicate the tests and refute the results if they were bogus. I have seen absolutely zero response from the other companies selling those other 16 products in that chart.
