I'm on my first D&D pipe and am not quite sure I like it yet. I previously had thunderheaders and prefer the sound over the D&D. Unfortunately thunderheader did not have a ghost pipe so I went with the D&D. Performance is excellent but it is loud with a higher note, tingy compared to other pipes. Not sure if I will do it again.
Based upon your comments, I would guess that you have the unwrapped performance baffle, hence the midrangy tingy sound. I have the wrapped performance baffle and it sounds very deep and somewhat loud but not too loud. A number of my friends who like deep bassy sounding harley think my bike is the best sounding one that they have heard. SOme of that may be the cams and 11:1 compression, but after having tried quite a number of exhaust options, I have to say I LOVE this pipe. My bike sounds MEAN!
You could try the other (wrapped) baffle, but I heard that they are hard to remove. Need to soak em in penetrating oil overnight and pound it out on a 2x4. google for removal ideas. I considered buying another muffler with the unwrapped to put on for days when I am feeling snarky! Leonard at DD says it really should not change the tune hardly at all to go between the different baffles. I am having a 131 built and I have a boarzilla to put on it, so I held off for now.
Also, in response to another post, I am pretty sure they are different from 2009 and up for the touring models due to the new touring frame. THe new one is called the Bosscat, and you have three baffle options : Perforated performance baffle, wrapped perforated performance baffle ( much quieter and deeper) and quiet baffle, ( last one only recommended for stock, I think too restrictive for motors with engine work)
