Rear seat looks like this. There is a slot in the metal tab but its not cut out. I was pushing that under the seat attachment. Is that correct?

The tab on the bottom front of the pillion goes under the tab on the rear bottom of the solo, as your picture appears to show.  Make sure that you put the two metal washers that came with your set up under the mounting hardware on the rear fender.  Those raise the tab on the back of the solo a little.  I did not have to cut any slots out.

What is the best way way to remove the protective tape that is on the rear fender under the seat on the 2010 SESG?

Use a hair dryer or a heat gun set on low. Warm the entire area and gently peel the plastic sheet off.

Finally, a decent pic of my C&C seat solo with backrest. Still love it. 3500 miles on the seat now.

My first & last CVO, Scarlett, arrived 6-1-12. I always remember my mom while riding.  She had smarts with a spirit of independence & adventure. "You Gotta LIVE!", was her motto; her favorite color red, and she loved BLING.
