As a matter of interest, Jim, you can pair a Zumo with the Infotainment system via Bluetooth, and you hear the Garmin's navigation prompts. However it means that you can't listen to any other audio source, so music would have to be on your Garmin too. (Which it plays happily too, by the way.)

Here's a shot of the back of the 6.5 unit in my 2014 FLHTKSE.  The Aux Input is there and is being used by (I believe) by the interface for the USB plug-in adapter located in the bay in the fairing where I plug in an iPod Nano for music.

Seems to me that a Y adapter of some sort would work for Zumo and USB connector.  Or just do what Equons said use Zumo for music also.

If it is being used for the USB connector then that input would have to be a digital input. The USB is digital and acts as a hard drive so the radio would be looking for that type of protocol and I do not think it will recognize an analog signal which is what the Garmin is.

I was under the impression that you could not pair the Garmin to the radio. If that is the case then not even the Harley engineer I spoke with knows it. Not a big surprise as they have given me incorrect info before.

Being able to pair via Bluetooth is a good thing for the people with dozens of routes with dozens of waypoints on there garmins and solves the issue (shortfall) of the built in GPS. May as well use the GPS for music also.

Good info to know.

Would still like to dissect it.

Yes, I was under the same impression, Jim - but out of interest, I tried it with two separate Zumo 660s, and while pairing doesn't appear to go smoothly, it works, properly and fully.  ;D

Interesting. :huh2:

Ever since I was a kid I loved taking electronic devices apart. Some thing inside me just has to know how they work. Really upset my parents one day when they came home to the new (3 days old) B&W TV that was in pieces on the living room floor. I was 11 at the time and lucky for me I could run faster then my father. I did put it back together and it only took me 2 days so I do not know why they were so soar. :nixweiss:

I have tried a number of times at the dealer and on a few friends bikes with no joy. Used 3 different Garmin's (Road Tech and Zumo) 660 and 665's, no joy. I never get a popup asking for the pin # to pair. The hour glass on the Garmin's just go around and around and where they stop nobody knows.

Is this a step issue that I am missing? Followed the directions for pairing to the letter from the manual.

Other forums running the same type of posts reflect that some people have success, while the great majority have no joy.

I have tried pairing on new bikes which have not been paired already with phones and on bikes (friends) that have had phones paired to the bike. I was thinking it might have some thing to do with a phone being paired at the same time with the bike but that does not seam to be the case.

Here I go back to the dealer, maybe they will let me take one home to dissect? :huepfenjump3:

paired a couple of phones as well, before the Gamins, so doesn't have to be a clean system, Jim.  As I said, the pairing is messy, with "failed" messages, "you may need this PIN" messages, "Can't sync" and so on, but the end result for me was that it worked; on the Infotainment system, you choose connect audio, and disconnect phone when it's paied.  Garmin shows the BT and headset icons.

Still not ideal though - really want it with a separate input, muting all other sources, so you can listen to the radio, or an iPod, etc.  That's where I see you coming in!  :P

Jim - Based on looking at the connector, it may be a digital versus analog connection.  Appears to be the same type of connector as in the back of my stereo system for the digital sound connection.  Don't know about pairing a Garmin, but I do know that my cell phone paired just fine and works flawlessly with the voice commands.  So far, I'm really enjoying the new Infotainment system they put in the bike. If you get the chance to perform a "medical procedure" on the system, pass along your findings... or on the other hand maybe it's best not to know what is in there... sometimes - ignorance is bliss.

Ride safe.

Building an interrupt module (cake) is not that hard, but I would need a stove (bike) to test the ingredient's and perfect the taste. That's how these things work, add ingredient's, mix, cook, taste, redo ingredient's, mix, cook, taste and on and on until the cake is finished. But I need a stove to cook the cake, that's where the "maybe they will let me take one home to dissect" comes in.

I may get bored this winter and play with my mixing bowl. Now to talk the head chief into buying a new stove. :o

Nope, not there, Jim. :(

cable on left is tune-dock USB input (of course the USB connector is proprietary to HD)
cable in the middle is your GPS antenna
cable on the right is your CB antenna
behind the removable cover is your upgrade/XM/Sirius module bay.
