Is it just me or does this bike look REALLY BIG?

Are these guys just all short or did they stage the bike about 10' in front of the guys to make it appear to be larger?

I mean on my stock suspension and handlebar '09 SERG my hand grips are just above my waist and my crotch is quite a bit over the seat height.

What do you all think?

By the way, I do like the looks of it.  But it's not a love at first sight for me.

I was at Indian's Open House in Woodbridge, ON yesterday, which was the first time that I've seen them in person.  Although the weather was not suitable for riding, just being able to sit on them and inspect them front to rear was quite interesting.

I was amazed at (for a big looking bike) how low the seat height was and how comfortable the seating position was.  I will definitely be back in the spring for a test ride.  The Vintage model was the best looking bike IMHO.

I believe they will do very well in the market and with Polaris behind them now, I'm sure they will be around for years to come... Just not too sure how long Polaris will hang on to the Victory line now???

Time will tell.

De gustibus non est disputandum (In matters of taste there is no dispute (right or wrong)).
That said, no opinion on the "looks" of the Indian lineup (or any bike) isn't worthwhile, for once, everyone gets to be right!  However, Indians are "retro" in appearance, so much so, you start off with a bike that looks antique. I thought that was part of the marketing concept, old look, modern mechanics.  Conversely, the "look" of the Victory Vision Tour is futuristic to the point of earning the nickname the "Judge Dredd Bike".  Apparently there is a market for these products and everything in between.  As far as copying goes, the rule is, "If it sells, copy it immediately", all manufacturer's do it, extensively.

I rode a Chief (Vintage) in Daytona last year, nice bike, nice ride, kinda like a Road King. Not sure I would like detailing all that fringe, but I enjoyed the ride.  I also tried a neighbor's Vision, I do not like the looks of it, but like the Goldwing, wonderfully functional, but not for me. I do feel you guys have it right though, the competition should make Harley Davidson better, and that is a good thing for us all.

Very nice!  I hope they are in the process of adding more dealers.  Indian dealers are few and far between.  SJ Ron :)

I think that Indian producing a custom shows that they are serious about competing against HD at all levels.  If Indian can produce a mechanically sound bike I believe that this will force HD to produce better quality bikes.  Just like what happened to the American auto industry with the Japanese.  In the end quality improved and we the consumer won.

They have to start somewhere.  I think they are nice looking bike as they are and they will get better looking as they tune into the market.  HD has some really ugly bikes and not all of HD bikes have been winners.

I like the look a lot, retro and different, glad to see spokes hope their polished stainless, I think it looks unique [probably because they haven't sold 1,000 of the custom model in the US alone] I'll let everyone else prove them for 5 years before I buy one. Still happy with my modern gadgeted old truck cvo.

according to the specs, the longest of the 3, the vintage, is 103.3 in.  compare that to the road king at 96.5 in, makes it about 6 in longer.  for a motorcycle, thats a lot.  it also has a seat height of 26.0 compared to the rk at 36.7, and weight of 835 lbs, vs rk at 814 lbs.

I haven't ridden an Indian, but they look they are built more like a really big Softail than anything else, with the very low seat height... much lower than a Harley Touring bike. Seating down IN the bike like a Softail changes the way the bike handles - but the Heritage is far easier to handle, especially when going slow, than a Touring bike is. The CG is lower, you are closer to the ground, and a  Softail is much smaller than a Touring bike. The Indian seems to be pretty much on par with a Touring bike as far as weight and length though... So it may handle kind of between a Softail and a Touring bike.

I do like the girder front end, but I don't like the rear end at all. The Vintage looks much better with the rear end covered by the nice leather bags.

Assumably the same as the Chief classic, it has a wheelbase of slightly over 68". You won't see any at a police rodeo at that length.  :)
