Ed,
That was an awesome bike. It was my first bike I ever owned. I put drag bars, and a 4-into-1 Kerker with a racing baffle in it. It would bark and run like crazy. The picture you showed could have been one of me. I learned how to do wheelies and burn outs with that bike. Could not believe the abuse that drive shaft took, and never gave me the first bit of trouble.

I agree D00d,
My first bike was the 81' XS, it had 22,000 miles when it was given to me because the guy couldn't pay me for a service change I did for him. It had a 4 to 1 on it too and you're right the shaft drive was tough. Mine was still smooth when I sold it, my second bike was a 79' XS1100. Both were great.
