Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Just looked at a schematic for both 2000 and 2001.  Same 22 separate connections at the radio plug itself.  So nothing to unplug to regain the aux function.  That there was no difference reminded me the CD deck transmitted via an FM modulator.  So there was something different about the 2001 that locked the aux function the FM modulator.  That being so I'd try unhooking all the connections to the CD deck, deck controller and modulator (the three parts of the system back in the tour pak) and see if de-powering the system releases the radio's aux function.

I remember dicking with these a couple times before but it's been ten years ago and I don't remember if this worked or not.  If that doesn't release the aux function on the radio your only other option will be to use a cassette adapter with its own auxiliary input.  Don't be spooked by the radio display continuing to say "CD" rather than "aux" even if all the CD deck hardware is disconnected.  That is how it will be behave.  Even the 2000 SERG radios do that and they never had the CD deck.

Ok,  I don't have the tour pack on the back.  So I guess it does not work,  I put it on CD and used the input and nothing.  Im guessing that my radio is crapping out slowly.

Can't imagine you'd want it but I've got the original and fully functional radio out of my 2000.  Keep in mind that it's a cassette deck and not a CD player.  You can have it for $200 and that will include the cross border postage.  The front aux port does work on this radio.

I'd not look to install the old cassette deck radio either.  HK swaps are the easiest.  All plug and play and all the handlebar controls work without adding anything.  But the various mount and interface kits make using many aftermarket pieces pretty easy also.
