Is there a way to use AUX on my tape deck for MP3?
« on: June 26, 2014, 05:57:31 AM »

Is there a way I can "break into" my tape deck and rewire for an mp3 player using the AUX port?  I noticed one for the 06 up HK deck,  but have not seen anything on the earlier models.

If I understand what you're saying... you have a cassette deck on the bike.  You may be able to find a Cassette adapter that has a 'male' plug that should fit into your MP3 player.  The adapter loads into the cassette deck the same as any cassette, but the audio is transferred from the MP3 player through the adapter.  Used this setup in the old truck many times.

I have one of those already,  works ok,  Im hoping to find a more hard mount solution,  Like opening up the radio and tapping into the AUX circuit.

Been a while since my '99 was gone, but I sure thought there was an aux input on the front of the radio.

See if Iron Cross Audio http://www.ironcrossaudio.com/additional-services.html can help.  They do this for newer models.

I will check them out.  supposedly the plug in in the front of our radios were for the cd player in the back.  or something like that.

It's an input.  Doesn't matter if the input is from an MP3 player or a CD player.  Once you plug it in, the AUX setting is enabled in the button sequence.

Road Tech HA90
handlebar-mounted MP3 player from Harley-Davidson. It's got a large LCD display, but uses SD memory cards for storage (it comes with a 64MB one).

Tried it again this morning and the plug is not working.  I tried in my friends street glide with H>K system and his works.  So Im guessing my radio is giving up the ghost.

New one installed soon.

Your 2001 with the CD deck has the aux function occupied by the presence of the CD deck (or at least the vestigial remnants of the deck's harness if the deck has been removed).  The 2000 model SERGs had the same radio but didn't get the deck so the aux function still works.

Hmmmm can I "unplug" the cd function and use the front input?

My first instinct was to say "yes" without even thinking about it as it seems so likely.  But after a moment's thought I realize it's been so long so I messed with one of those decks I've forgotten how the connection is made at the rear of the radio.  So, somehow, likely so.  But I have no recollection of where the inputs from the deck go in primary connector.
