I have used Battery tenders for years.  Most of the newer ones do go into a float or maintenance mode. All of mine do. I use them on my bikes, lawn mowers  and boats (both boats have dual batteries).  This has extended the life of my batteries and I do check to make sure the green light is on steady. Most of my batteries are sealed but if they are not I always check the fluid in them anyway.  besides the extending the life of the batteries I can always count on them to start.

Previously I'd have to replace the battery on my John Deere riding mower each spring as it would die over the winter.  Bought a BT Junior several years ago and still on the same battery.  Cannot recall exactly when but I think it was 3 or 4 years at least, maybe more.  I'm a believer!  Bike is always on BT when it is parked in the garage.

I have 6 battery tender Juniors.  Two have just failed but are over 8 years old.  Local dealer had them on sale so I picked up two more to replace them yesterday.

One for each of the five bikes, and one for my Zero turn mower.

I also have a Ctec battery tender for my Stingray.  It's about 2.5 times the cost of the battery tender jr.  Not sure its worth the extra money, has a lot more lights and information but does the same thing.  The nice thing about it is you plug it in to the 12 volt outlet in the rear hatch of the car.

I do know these do prolong the life of my batteries significantly.

Hey Dave, what was the sale price on these at SMHD?  I'm looking to add two also (one for the MINI and the other for the Cub Cadet).

Howard,
I just bought two more from Amazon for $24 and change apiece, delivered price.  These were the real deal Battery Tenders.  There may be cheaper prices out there, but I ordered them with Amazon Prime on a Sunday and they were delivered 2 days later.
I now have 6 of them but with 8 batteries to keep up with, I can switch them around as needed.  This winter promises to be cold, and 6 tenders cost the same as one battery (easily!), so to me they are well worth it.

Costco has the 3 amp version now at $10 off, $30.00 currently.
Not on the website, only seen it in the stores.

Thanks guys.

Harry, I logged into Amazon and found the Battery Tender brand at $24.99 each.  Total with free shipping and tax would be $53.36 for two.  The same thing through Harley is $39.95 each.  Total would be $87.80 for two including tax. So initially the Amazon offering is less expensive and I would normally go that route.

However, I spoke to my parts guy at Bootlegger and got the discount they were offering at the invitation event last night plus I have some VIP points to spend.  Going the dealership route, I would end up with two of the HD tenders for $34 total (for the two) including tax and he has two in stock (with 9 on order)...not too shabby...

I like the battery tenders.  I don't normally use them on the bike since I do ride all year round but I've noticed, as Dave stated, that the batteries do seem to hold up better even if they are on a charge for a couple of days to keep them "full" on the rainy/salt/snow days Beauregard has to sit idle.... :2vrolijk_21:

That's the best price anybody's likely to ever get.  For the rest of us, unless you can beat 24.99 delivered, you could do worse than buying thru amazon.
I like the tenders as well.  I have one or two HD versions, but they are heavier and usually a lot more expensive.
Plus, I like free shipping and no tax whenever possible!

I like the brand Battery Tender as well. I had one go bad and it was about 6 or 7 years old.

I have 11 Dave. 5 on bikes in Matthews, 1 on a bike in Maggie Valley, 1 on the Mustang, 2 on the John Deere mowers, 1 travel tender and 1 spare. I'm a BT fan!

I believe it was 21 or 22 dollars for the JR.

That's a very good price.
