Unless it is a safety related matter Harley won't do a recall. They may do some other type of program for the affected bikes, but a mandatory recall is probably not going to happen.

:indian_chief:

As an employee in a "like" business, NHTSA would have to be involved.  I'm not sure how it works with bikes, but with motor vehicles there is a pretty rigid process these issues go through to become a campaignn or voluntary recall.  One would have to check with NHTSA to see what type of issues have been reported.

Seems like someone may have already mentioned this before but, Does anyone know if the lemon laws apply to bikes? I had a problem years ago with a Ford Ranger. Bad transmission, kept slipping. They worked on it several times and then I heard about the lemon law. I talked to the manager and said hey, fix it for good this time because its your last chance. Next time and I'm giving it back to you. He said, no you cant do that. I said ever heard of the lemon law? He said, we'll order you a knew transmission. Drove that truck 150,000 miles after that with no problems. If the lemon laws do apply, then maybe HD would like to start getting some 110's back! The way the lemon law works is three failed attempts to repair the same problem and it goes back. I love my bike and want to keep it. But not if I'm going to have to get a new cylinder every few thousand miles. Anybody Know if this would apply to us?

I believe the lemon laws differ from state to state in what it will cover. :nixweiss:

Varies from state to state as dood said.  However the interesting factor is the expected life of the vehicle.  In MASS and NH, the bike's life is 25000 and 20000 respectively.  If your bike has 10K miles and you meet the other criteria, you are entitled to 60% of the value, in NH it would be 50%.  In other words, you'd be better off with a bad trade in than invoking the lemon law.  And it costs $$$ to file a claim and the dealer gets one more chance to fix it.

Another case of legislators writing laws without any knowledge of what they are doing.

Actually, many (most?) bills are written by lobbyists, not by the actual legislators.  They're too busy shaking folks down for campaign contributions to waste time actually researching and writing bills.
