hmmm...that sounds like the voice of experience?

Indirectly, Yessir.  Was at Rod's shop when Richard was doing an oil change on another customer's bike.  Snapped off.  Expletives abounded.  Richard hates that I use them, but appreciates that I know how to use them properly.

I use the K & P oil filter...

That's an interesting looking system, Scott.  Can't be any more messy than the K&Ns or stock oil filters.  How do you clean the filter element?  Have you noticed a significant decrease in oil temp during use?  Is there an o-ring/gasket that needs to be replaced each time it is removed?

You are right, Henry, it is no more messy than a stock type oil filter to remove...  I clean the filter first in the solvent tank, then with a can of brake clean.  I can't say I have noticed a significant decrease in oil temperature, but I do like that I can see exactly what is caught in the filter at every oil change.  There is an o ring seal that I change a once a season... (a season means riding season for those of you who live in year round riding climates! hehe...)

Thanks, Scott.  I have a healthy supply (10 each) of KN-171C oil filters on hand, so it'll be awhile before I need to replenish or further consider this option.  Great info.   :2vrolijk_21:

Some will debate this type filter...but I believe it's an effective filter... :nixweiss:

Why?

I think some would argue it is not as effective of filter as a paper type filter - but I have quite a bit of experience with this type filter in my former life road racing with my father and circle track racing with my godfather... and am confident with its function...

Scott,  The voice of experience speaks volumes, wouldn't you say?  Seems to me to be a VERY cost effective alternative to the $11.00 I spend on an oil filter at each oil change.  Pay one price, and you have a filter that has an indefinite lifecycle for the most part.  As long as effectivity isn't compromised, seems the K&P solution would be a much more economical alternative over the course of time than the single use filters.  JMHO.   :2vrolijk_21:

yeah...I agree...both cost effective and an effective filter...IMO... :2vrolijk_21:
