2009 110" CVO ULTRA
« on: January 18, 2009, 03:49:43 PM »

I am taking delivery of a new 2009 next month. Can anyone recommend the stock set up ? Do I need to replace the air cleaner, mufflers or anything else to get it to run right. I would like to stay as near stock as possible. Thanks.

Hi Mike.  That is a loaded question because everyone has their own opinion.  I think it will run fine but it will definitely run lean and hot.  Many of is have changed to high flow air cleaner, less restrictive exhaust and some type of fuel enrichment system to remedy this.  It is of course a personal decision.

Thank you. Could someone suggest an air cleaner, exhaust change and fuel enrichment to make the bike run without being hot and lean?

If you're not going to be doing these upgrades yourself find a tuner that has a good reputation, and you trust doing the tune on your bike then ask them what they recommend. There are so many different combinations your best bet is to hear/see them to decide after you get recommendations from your tuner.

Thanks again for all the input and kind words. My local mechanic has recommended the vance and hines fuel pak with their slip on mufflers. Has anybody tried this?

 :welcome_005:  Mike   :welcome_005:

You'll find various threads and opinions here on what the 09 110" needs.  Here's $.02:  The biggest issue is the cat. converter which will restrict your exhaust flow no matter what else you do.  That is removable with a core drill bit.  Look here:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=27814.0

If you want to improve exhaust with out spending a lot and keeping it looking stock, you can change out the muffler cores.  Look here:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=28086.0

After the above, your bike should run much cooler.  If you want, then change out the back plate and filter of your a/c to the SE set up.  You can keep the front oval, chrome cover.  Last, consider a tune.  I went with a version of the SERT.  To see what various guys have done and there results, look here:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=27693.0    Mostly good luck and enjoy!

You said you wanted to keep it close to stock, so go with the Fullsac muffler inserts.  Then you still have the stock mufflers on there, but just changing the inside of them.  While you have the mufflers off to recore them, at least drill out the top half of the catalytic converter, since you will have direct access to it.  The hardest part about that is simply finding the core bit to do the job and you can get help with that on this site also.

Hi, I have a 07 110 and it ran hot so I changed to Vance & Hines big radius pipes, added a race tuner and had it tuned. Runes like a scalded rabbit.

Congratulations...I am in the process of beating the crap out of mine in stock configuration to see hwhat breaks, nothing yet.

At eh 5k servcie next month I will install a D&D 2-1, jet hot coated, fatcat header with a quiet perfomance baffle and a HD hi flo air cleaner.

I am fortunate enough to have a tuned map to download...If it runs well I will post it in the maps section for others to use..
