The rear cylinder will shut down and act as an air pump when the temp. is too high. You can manually shut this feature off (I did) by following instructions in your owner's manual. The 110 engines run too hot, because of the lean fuel mixture  EPA emissions make necessary. My right leg gets so hot off of the rear cylinder that I can't hardly stand it when I'm in stop & go traffic! I am very disappointed with the stock seat and will probably buy the Corbin or Mustang seat.

JimD , Sounds like you need the heat shields that bolt onto the frame just rear of the cylinder. These will  protect your legs from the heat..The best $68.00 you will ever spend at your local dealer. Secondly, I have short legs as well and need to set low to the ground. This custom fits perfect and only 2 1/2'' thick with gel pad. So find a custom seat builder to build you a seat that fits YOU!! That's also well worth the money spent..attached pics of a custom seat with heat shield..

Hi Jim

I just put a HD Sundowner seat #52093-08 on my 09 SERG. It fits much better than the stock one
and seems like it will be a lot more comfortable. (only put about 75 miles on it)
As far as the heat on the 09 SERG I am having no problems with my set up. I cannot tell what you have
done to yours but the first thing you should do is get rid of the CAT if you have not done it.
I went to V&H power duals to get rid of the CAT and went with FullSac baffles and V&H fuel pak for fuel
management.. We have been having 90-100 temp out this way and I am having no heat problems at all.
Good luck with what ever set up you go with.

I had a local seat builder build me a new seat, I am 6'6", 270 and needed extra room both in length and width, the hammock was just not getting, he reformed the seat pan while retaining the hammocktowards the front of the saddle but gave me more room to stretch out, I did but  tour pack re locater  on and moved it back so the wife has room. I went with all leather, good lether will need conditioning, but it breaths where the so call saddlehyde does not, but even if your worried about rain, set covers are cheap, even HD has them for about $35.00.

I am using a Danny Gray "Big Seat". It is also available with rider backrest and matching pillion pad.
