After market seats
« on: July 27, 2009, 11:56:45 PM »

I own the 2009 CVO road glide sliver with a chopped tour pack and I love it, just did my longest ride every 900 miles, what I dont like is the seat issue separating from the gas tank, I know harley is aware of it.

My question to all is:
I am going to go with an after market seat either a corbin or a mustang, I am looking for advice?? also wondering if anyone with a corbin seat has heard of the leather wrinkling in the rain, and having to condition the seat every few weeks.

I also bought a chopped tour pack: these after market companies only make the tour pack seat with the arms rest.  Will the armed back pad work on a chopped tour pack???

thank you for any help or insight you can give me

Lids on chopped or King paks are the same.  So a pad from one will fit the other.  Only question is the mounting holes.  You'll have to drill holes to mount the pad from the King pak.  And if you ever change back to the small pad hose holes will be in the open.

Any special reason you have limited your aftermarket selections to Corbin and Mustang? There is C & C and Lepera to name a few other atermarket seat companies. My preference is LePera due to their leathers and customer service.

No, I have heard good things about them, I am looking for a comfortable seat that has the driver back rest and doesnt look  like it is a old mans seat, i dont want it to be  big and puff as a ultra seat,

i am looking for comfort something that looks good and something I can sit on for a long time and put miles on.

Had both Corbin and Mustang.  Never had trouble with either.  Corbin still looks as good today as it did when I installed it last summer, and it has been through MANY gully washing rain storms.  Comfort is.......pretty good.......but I think the Mustang is a better quality, more comfortable saddle.

I have purchased 2 corbin seats and like them both. Would have gone with a mustang but they only sell black seats and I need tan leather on one of them. The other was for my wife and corbin makes a few models that are for folks with shorter legs. They take a while to break in but I would call them comfortable. For rides over 500 in a day I use an AirHawk seat cushion. It  makes a big difference.

Would have loved a mustang,  but they dont make one for the 08 SERK (I begged)  Ended up with a used Corbin from this forum.  It was broken in w/ 10k miles on it... I love it,  but on 6+hr rides I need a gel pad...  The build quality on the corbin is great!

The only complaint I have is when I bought a new passenger seat,  it is hard as a rock.....  Needs to be modified..

I dont think you can go wrong with either...

If you want a great seat for the least amount of $, go with the Mustang.  If you want a custom seat, and have the $ to spend, go with the Corbin.

Anthony: I have the orange & black '09 SERG. My seat is also way too short, leaving that hideous gap between the tank and the front edge of the seat. I am looking at the Corbin Gambler Saddle, but since I have short legs, it has been suggested that I buy Harley's reach seat, to move me closer to the controls and lower to the ground. My question is: will this Harley seat fit the Road Glide any better than the stock seat does? Other problems have been: my right side rear view mirroe fell off after a week of riding the bike (still don't have a replacement) and my bike is one of the 1759 that may have a cracked rear wheel! I am really starting to miss my '05 CVO Electra-Glide!!

I did talk to Corbin today about a dual tour saddle, I also have short legs and they told me they will cut the inner thigh area down for no extra cost, the guy told me if you buy a seat tell them you height, weight and inseam they will take care of the rest, he did tell me that a lot of people are having issues like that cause they made the frame bigger.

mustang also sells a low profile touring seat cut for people with short legs called the one piece sport touring seat.

i have had no other issues with my bike until i sat in a traffic jam for an hour this past weekend and it started to make terrible noise as it got to hot.  i guess you can shut down a cylinder in order to cool it down. nobody at the deal told me this so read you manual

The rear cylinder will shut down and act as an air pump when the temp. is too high. You can manually shut this feature off (I did) by following instructions in your owner's manual. The 110 engines run too hot, because of the lean fuel mixture  EPA emissions make necessary. My right leg gets so hot off of the rear cylinder that I can't hardly stand it when I'm in stop & go traffic! I am very disappointed with the stock seat and will probably buy the Corbin or Mustang seat.

Mustang seats are very comfortable for riding, especially distances. I have the Ultra touring, also had one for five years on an 03 road glide. Use the riders backrest too, wouldn't be without either. I'm getting old and my back and butt used to hurt after 200 miles, but not anymore. For distances over 300 miles, I use an Airhawk cushion too.

Got a Corbin & a mustang for my "04 SEEG.Still don't know what I'll put on the "10 SESG.Mustang is less $$$ & softer, but the Corbin is the better lookin'.Corbin claims it takes 2000 miles to break in.I've got 40,000 on mine & it's still hard.Either seats good for 3 or 400 miles & I reach for the jell pad or sheepskin.Though I might try a Harley solo 'till I looked at the one on my buddy's SG.Opening for the back rest looks like a female body part.

I've had a Mustang on on my RK for years, a Corbin Stinger on my SEEG and a Lepera on the FB. I recently ran the SEEG with the stock seat and back rest as well as the winter seat - a modified to fit dual heated Ultra seat. The ultra seat is surprisingly nice and comfortable. The Corbin as said above is always hard, though pretty comfortable. The Corbin is three different shades and different skins - looks great, but has a few scars and an annoying wrinkle that developed. The stock seat is garbage and will never be on the bike again. The Mustang is about 10 years old looks great, feels great, 40k miles and never sore.

My next seat for my next touring bike will be a Mustang.
