In Canada would you normally expect a price increase/decrease during a model year?

In Switzerland the prices are fixed amongst all dealers for the whole model year! It doesnt matter what the currency exchange is doing during that time frame.

discounts can at some dealerships be negotiated on delivery charges or delivery inspection charges or possibly a free first service

In Canada we have had both price decreases and increases. In 2004 when the Canadian $ gained in strength against the US $ the Canadian prices dropped after the Dealers were bombarded by Canadian Customers over the vast pice differences. In Canada in 2009 their were two price increase one in February 09 and one in July 09, I think those were the dates.

Their have been rumours of another Canadian Dealer Price increase, however that may be hard to justify as the Canadian $ is strengthening against the US $, I think yesterday that One US $ was worth .95 Cents Canadian, it is expected to maybe reach par by years end. So, maybe their might be a decrease in prices within the next month.

In Canada pricing is set by Deeley Imports (an exclusive HD Distributor for Canada, basically Harley Davidson Canada) with I assume input from Harley Davidson Corporate in the US.

Right now on the dealer floors (Calgary) they are asking $49,995 for an 09 SEUC and that does not include the GST (similar to VAT) of 5%. For a 2010 SEUC they are asking CDN $50,000 without GST.
I could have bought an 09 SEUC in california, Arizona for US $34,000 which equates out US $34,000 X Exchange Rate of say !.07 =CDN $36,380 X GST of 1.05 = CDN $38,199 plus CDN $207. DOT Fee and another CDN $187 for an out of Province Inspection for a landed total in Canada of  CDN $38,593.00, and the 2010 bikes would follow the same pattern, that is why a lot of Canadians are purchasing bikes in the US.

In EU you are probably in a similar situation as the pricing is probably set by a HD Master Distributor (if their is one) and I assume because of the taxes etc you price would be a lot higher.

Yes thats correct, and the vast difference in prices between EU countries equates to the various different rates of import tax, vat tax, wealth tax, luxury tax, at present England has one of the lowest price rates on new bikes

Canadian dollar is approaching $0.97US!

If this keeps up the experts maybe be right and it'll soon be worth $1.10 or more!

Then us Canadians will be able to buy a bike for less the the US MSRP!  :orange:

Not bad, eh!

I have bought 90% of my chrome, bike parts, and HD clothing from dealers in near by Buffalo and Western New York.  I not only find the prices much better, even with the exchange rate of the CND dollar, but I find th U S dealerships to be much more fiendly and welcoming than my local dealer.  I think the arogance of the Deeley Corp. trickles down into some of the CND dealerships.  Example:  I recently inquired at my dealership about repacing the headlight bubble on my SERG with the trim piece from the 09 SERG.  getting a straight answer was like pulling teeth, and the cost was going to be $ 75.00 CND.  I picked up the part the next week in Gowanda NY and they installed it in the parking lot for $ 45.00 U S charged on my CC at $ 52.00 CND.  It is well worth the trip aceoss the border if you have the oppertunity.
