I read somewhere that it has to do with meeting emmisions. One may also say that the Moco knows a true 2-1 is the best bet and two pipes is for style thus a crossover. Forget the dressers - what about the rest of the models?

I believe you will find that every v-twin from H-D has a stock exhaust system with a balance tube (crossover).
