This thread was started in May of 09, I took my bike in yesterday. the service manager had not heard of the swingarm problem. He did not challenge me on it (he doesn't do that anymore  :huepfenlol2:) but had not heard of it. this is what I am working with  :nixweiss:

Marty

Getting the tank recall done, isolator , still working on the abs !!!

i get the same thing at my dealer. :nixweiss:  i let them have there say then politely ask for them to look at whatever number service bulletin i'm referring to. if it weren't for this site alot of us would be in the dark. :drink: including dealerships. :P

i just recently got the belt guard drain hole, tank recall and abs update. had to go back to get the abs update redone. they had to look up the bulletin.

I took the belt guard off the 10 and the drain hole was covered so got out  a drill bit and siliconed the brake line holdowns.

The programming in the 2010 bikes is more refined and works better. They can update your 09 program to the 2010 program. I did it on mine and noticed a huge difference in threshhold braking.

a friend got his FLHTCUSE4 in August, due to undrained clutch put it against his garage door the second day. Not only scraped fairing - the frame took a hit. So his bike was in for new frame, new fairing (not the slightest problem with dealer or H-D Germany  :2vrolijk_21:).

Before delivery in August ABS got reprogrammed, beltguard fix done, everything so far so well. But when the bike got disassembled in January for the frame job it was found the beltguard had moved a little so the drain hole was partly covered. A considerable amount of rusty water was found in swingarm - rust had already blocked the drain hole. The bike got only some 2.000 m on the clock due to above mentioned mishaps. Everybody was quite shocked. So this time Swingarm got drained, cleaned up with anti-corrosives and sealed. This will be done with all 09-touring-models with this dealer from now on.

As my bike was in the shop for cat removal the same time, it got thoroughly inspected - but was found dry and clean despite having 8.000 m on clock (and some of them in really nasty rain). Got the same treatment however, just to be shure.

Also told me that the inside of the swingarms were coated and would not rust. (Not sure I buy that one yet)

Uhuh.  That'd be why the water that comes out is rusty then....  ;)

I plugged my the hole in my swingarm with silicone back when this was first mentioned as a problem.  I haven't had a problem with it since.  I have the chrome belt guard cover on my bike and I'm not drilling holes through it to let water drain out of there, so I'm glad I took care of the problem on my own.  It only took a few minutes to block off that hole.

I pulled the belt guard off my 2010 and the swing arm had the drain hole but there was no corresponding hole in the belt guard that covered it.  Drilled a hole in the belt guard and siliconed the other side of the swingarm the best I could around the rear brake line holdowns.

That's not where the hole is.  It's on the front side of the swingarm in the middle, facing the transmission.  With a flashlight aimed just right and moving some wiring out of the way, you'll be able to see it.  There is a thread on here somewhere about it and I think someone got a shot of it in a photo.

There is also a hole on the top right side that the brake line holder clip pops in too.  It's not wide open like the front hole is but those clips are pretty flimsy.
