Vance & Hines Throttlepak
« on: June 11, 2011, 01:25:02 AM »

I just saw in American Bagger mag an advertisement for a V&H Throttlepak for TBW on the touring models.
Has any one seen or know if this is any good. I had a dickens of a time trying to get the dealer to set mine where if I hit the gas too fast it would just die,or just spit and sputter. After putting on a PC and a total retune it seems to be a little better but still seems like i have to be carefull coming out from idle. Hole shots are definately out of the question. Any thoughts ?

There are a couple threads on this already.

It shouldn't be necessary for those with tuning software that will adjust the throttle response curve.  I'm not sure if the PC has that capability or not, but I think I'd call and ask them before spending more on another product.  Also, your symptoms sound more like a tune problem than a response curve problem, which manifests as a lag.

The two products are not compatible with each other. The V&H is basically half of what you have now, it is like a tuner with half of the functionality torn out leaving you with air-fuel mixture and possibly fuel curve on the DBW bikes, only. While I am not a huge fan of the PC, with the right tuner you should not be having the issues you are describing. The bike should not try and stall on decel, it should not sputter on accel either. Good tuners are hard to find, just because a shop has a Dyno does not indicate that they know what they are doing. Do a search on the site for a good tuner in your area, unless something is wrong with your bike that should be all you need.

Im going to see Jim at MD next week and get his opinion. I bought the bike and dealer added SERT and after 1k they wanted to retune, Upon picking up it had the decel pop  and accell sputter,it took them another 5 hours to fix somewhat better but still IMO not right, after the PC upgrade the decel pop is gone but just a hint of the lag/sputter coming out of idle, so the tuner helped 90%, I was just kinda wondering if this would be something to consider , ,thanks for the responses.

If you are going to see Jim then that covers it. He will get you dialed in for sure.
