I justed dropped my bike off at my STEALER .Had a couple of warranty items (35k on the bike - - - - gotta love that ESP) to get fixed, One of em believe it or not is these cam chain tensioner pads. They agreed to warranty this for me. I'll post the results after the service Also just to piss off Beagle if he sees this, since they have to take my primary completely apart to fix the shifter linkage seal leak, they are installing my chrome inner primary and automatic primary chain tensioner FREE    ;)

Have you looked at the tensioner pads yet, or just assuming that w/ that many miles they're worn out?  I've got the same miles on my SEEG, so you see why I'm tuned into this.  [smiley=nervous.gif] har!  spyder

Hey brah    :)    Been feeling some engine vibration lately and hearing a little more cam chain rattle than in the past  Stopped by the Stealer, Service Manager is a Mainiac like me and he and I were swappin insults as only Mainiacs can do and he noticed a drip behind the primary which he diagnosed was the seal on the shifter shaft AND which he said he'd warranty. SO I SAID, well you gotta promise me you'll warranty that cause I think my Cam Chain Pads are bad and I can't pay for both right now (as you know I've been on a spendin spree) SO low and behold, he said he warranty the pads too.

Bottom line is unless you're hearing or feeling something you're good. I've been on this subject like stink on chit for over a month and the bottom line is there ain't no way of predicting when they're gonna go. I think Hubbard probably said it best when he talked about high revvin, high lift cams increasing the wear factor. My motor is stock. I have a stage 1 breather, SERT and Reinharts but none of that adds wear to the cam chains ect.

yep, mine is pretty much like yours, no speed mods, so that makes me feel a little better.  'Preciate the run-down, 'cause I'm a real worry-wart when it comes to imagining the worse........I feel like I'm gonna eventually go to the gear drive and eliminate this worry, just hate to do it until it's due.  :-/ spyder

hey spyder
when you do get around to getting them replaced, make sure you get them upgraded to the set-up that is standard on the 06 Dyna's. Got a call from my buddy at the Stealer, they are doing mine as I type this. Also in case you hadn't been informed, since you have to cut the pushrods to change these suckers, you want to pop for adjustable pushrods

Yeah, not much choice if you go the 'easy' way, huh?  I'm thinking I'm gonna wait until after the Daytona Run now.......less than a month away.  Yeeha!  [smiley=drink.gif] spyder

Just came from the dealer. Elvis is in intensive care. The cam chain tensioner pads were chewed through, cams worn to rough spots, oil pump shot - - -what a mess. They are replacing the entire twin cam unit cams included and oil pump. ESP is gonna cover it all. $2K saved. Guess that paid for itself already .Only expense for me is for adjustable pushrods and some fancy new billet pushrod covers.Hard to say when these went, but based on feel my guess is within the last 1,000 miles, 34,600 on the odometer now so maybe 33k. No way they've been this bad for much more than that, the whole mess would have siezed up.  add this to what everyone else has had to say and seems like the upper limit on these is just above 30k  sure glad I stopped when I did. could have gotten nasty out in the middle of the Mojave somewhere in the middle of the night.   ;)

Good to hear they're not going to blame your pipes or other mods and not warrant the work as other dealers have threatened......had you modified your exhaust?

stage 1 breather, SERT and Reinharts  that's minor chit in my book, but i hear you on the way some of these stealers act as though it's their money on the line.  you know the whole ESP thing is in how your stealer talks to the folks at ESP headquarters  SD H-D has the coolest chick you ever met that handles all of this stuff and she rocks at getting things done

Just picked up Elvis at the dealer. Smoooooooooth baby  smoooooooth

Tensioner pad on the camshaft side was so chewed up there isn't anything to take a picture of will try to get a shot with Beagle's fancy camera. Almost 3k covered under ESP.new cam followers, oil pump, cams and cam bearing repair kit (06 upgrade) chains, tensioners seals gasketds etc etc  Got my chrome inner primary and automatic primary chain tension adjuster installed free since they had the primary apart to warranty the trans case seals. Only bitch was the mechanic put the Reinhart muffs on seams out. Waited another hour to get that straightened out. Off I went thinkin Elvis had a little Mel Torme in him.  ooooooooooo so smoooooooooooooth

I'll repeat this cause it's worth saying. To those of you worried about when to deal with this problem. You WILL feel it, what you'll feel is an increase in vibration through your hand grips. As the problem gets worse you'll hear the cam chains louder than normal. Thanks to reading about this for the past six months, I was able to walk myself through diagnosing the problem and getting it fixed so a big ATTABOY to all who posted on this topic.
