Had a friend (now deceased) whose family owned a Chevy store for many years.  Back in the late 70s he explained GM's quality control philosophy - slap it together, ship it out and let the dealer fix whatever is wrong.  Seems lots of folks at the moco must have worked for GM back then, lol.

With the CVO this is were they make most of thier porfit,,dealer and HD.  The dealer should be catching all these problems, thats why we are charges for setup
HD may be putting out junk but it's up the Dealer to make sure we don't see it..  YOU need to get on the dealer not HD :)  OR they need to get the price down on the bikes so we can fix them the way they sould be and cut the Dealer out

NOt to sound bad here but I'm hope we come on more hard times  maybe if some of these over paid labors go hungy They mite be happy to get back to working 12hr days take out all breaks, 15 min lunch. and ask permission to take a piss break,,,, OH I forgot we live the USA where  everybody has thier hands out telling the goverment they have the right for a FREE LUNCh, LET JUST Tax the working so they also have nothing

Just remember the MoCo is still making LOTS of money!
'IF" the people who have disposal income would NOT
spend it on bike purchases, and accessories the people
who assemble them MIGHT not have a job!
Look what happened to the auto companies that
did not pay attention to quality. They learned the
hard way, and now thousands will never have a
good paying job again.

bought my bike brand new and it had spot on right side of rear fender between tail light and tip that they did some kind of touch up on at the factory.Color matches perfect but left a small blemish.I got over it,but it is amazing that let stuff like that pass. Also it would be nice if they finished under the fenders and under the tank and I am not talking about the tunnle of the tank but the area you see if you bend over and look under it.They did the paint under their but did a poor job on continueing the theme, stripes and etc.

Re the Dealer's role.
Killer Creek HD, Roswell, GA has my bike right now.
From the start, a year ago the bike was fine. Paint, chrome were fine and function was good...until I smashed it.

Getting the painted parts from HD takes forever (Fairing, front fender, gas tank, L bag and top, fork cover and some trim piece in the back)
So far KCHD has sent several parts back as the paint job was not up to their expectations.

I don't look forward to doing another full inspection after the repairs but if my dealer does what they did when the bike was new it should be in great shape.

A good work ethic is nice to find...and getting scarce. Union or not, I have seen good and bad...I think it has to do with what the parents taught and showed by example. So far Killer Creek HD seems to have a good crop of well motivated employees...I thank their parents.

Now if we want to talk about the other side of the coin lets discuss my recently replaced GMC 2004 Yukon...Nice riding POS vs the 1987 Jeep I am driving in the snow and ice this week. Both Union built, one was a lemon from the start...the other keeps on crawling around after 23+ years of abuse.

I think a quality HD dealer would solve these issues.

While I was waiting to pick up my bike in Late October, paperwork & such, I walked back to their service area. Believe it or not there were TWO service techs prepping another bike for the showroom floor. Both of them had white gloves on and were obviously checking out every single detail. One of them as he glided his hand across the surfaces would stop and make a grease pencil mark. When I asked them what they were doing they said, and I quote: "Our goal is to be the best HD dealer in the country. That means our bikes leave our shop perfect everytime."

Now that's what I call Customer Care.

Anyone have issues with the finish on their 2011 CVO's ?  I picked up my FLHTCUSE6 on Sunday and I have to say I was a bit surprised by little imperfections from the factory.....

The CVO emblem on the fuel door looked like it had been kicked across the floor.
There were scratches all along the tank where the center dash meets the tank.
There was a haze in one of the saddlebag lids that when you wiped it away, came back ! Strangest thing I ever saw !
One of the muffler heat shields has many scratches in the chrome.
The winshield trim piece has a haze on it that wont come out.

There are others and they are all minor, but the good news is the dealer is sending a detailer to my house to do the whole bike ! And whatever they can not correct, the dealer will replace.  Now that's service !

I had been through the York plant tour and had seen the special piece done on the Discovery Channel (I think it was there) where they show you how the CVO's are completely hand built with every attention paid to quality and detail. I've since heard a rumor that the CVO's are no longer built that way, and are just part of the the normal production line. Anyone else hear that ?

I have the same issues on my 2011 SESG.  I picked it up and it looked fine.  Went I got home and put it in the garage you could see fine scratches all over the tank and bags.  I called my dealer and they are going to call in a pro detailer they use to try and buff it out.  I have been very dissappointed in the finish over all.  The also are replacing the piece that goes down the center of the tank.  Killer creek has been pretty good about trying to make it right.  More to come!!

I first saw my bike when the dealer did, we uncrated it.  HD wraps them up very well.  The dealer, however, cannot just unwrap it, screw on your plate and send you on your way.  There's a responsibility to look the bike over to be sure they are ensuring a satisfied customer.  Although sending a detailer out sounds like good customer service, it's actually REWORK, as it should have been taken care of before delivery.  Dissatisfaction is memorable.

I have said this already here but will again so you can better understand what the real problem is with their quality...

As already stated there is no more dedicated CVO assembly line and the bikes are assembled in the normal assembly line.MANY of those workers now are only day workers(temps) who are only allowed to work one or two days a week after the last round of what happened here with the union. Many fulltime workers lost their jobs right after the last contract was ratified AND Harley-Davidson outsourced the hauling of the bikes to the dealers to UPS.ALL of the transportation drivers are gone and in their place are driver who are working for much less per mile with terrible benefits. It is a shame that they feel quality is less important than putting out a good product but thats whats happening.

I have many friends who had jobs there who are now being re-educated by the state to move onto another line of work and the drivers I knew have moved onto other driving jobs with the various companies in the area. You want to see how Harley feels about your expensive bike that you want to buy...Just ask any of the dealers who have had one the the UPS hired drivers bring their bikes to them.Just be prepared to step back as you may not be able to stand the lashing that may happen.
