there were no mayor technical upgrades with the softails before 2011 except the 96 engine since 2007. Go for the 05/06 if you get a good one.

Personally I would buy a CVO Fatboy long before a newer base model Fatboy, and specifically the '05... I just love what they did with the paint in '05.  :2vrolijk_21:
If it is for running around town and shorter rides, I wouldn't waste my money on a 6 speed either.
Great engine just the way it is.

JMHO.

Good luck with your decision.

PierceEye that is a very nice bike, but you are missing the question. Which would you chose? 05 or 06 CVO Fatboy or 08 Fatboy that I modify. Your bike and a CVO Fatboy look very similar. Are they basically the same? Like the frame and stuff? Was that your point that they all look similar but with your 2010 CVO there is more bang for the buck and or less work to modify? Wife says she wants a Fatboy but it may be just the solid chrome wheels that she really wants and a Convt. CVO with Chrome solid wheels might pull her chain. Thanks for the .02.

Well I appologize for going off track here. If it came down to an 05 o 6 i would take the 5 because of the paint. Yes the way they did th 10 CVO Conv does make it look like a Fatboy to me too which is another reason I like it. I do think it is more bang for the buck; by the time you mod an 05/06 then just take those funds and get an 10 or 11 put on pipes and the SE Intake tune it with the SEPST you get awesome power and better value retention IMO.

Look at my attached Dyno after mods

I would go with the 06 CVO as that was the first year for the "fat" tire. IMO that tire looks sooo much better from the back.

valid argument. Comparing the FLHTCUSE4 to my earlier FLHRCI the fatter tire doesn't only look better, it rides better too (at least on a touring).

Kraut I think a good 05/06 will be a good plan. I am an old school hot rod kind of guy so I like the wide tire look. Everyone thanks for all the feedback. Most of you confirmed my thoughts.

I'm with you, I love the 05 paint! I am ok with some of the 06 paint jobs also. A guy can't have too many CVO's can he?

Would choose the 2006, the 2005 lacks the big rear tire.  I do miss the six speed trannie on the highway, but if you find you do lots of long distances you can upgrade to the screaming eagle sixspeed or the baker.  The 103 is a great engine and I had cycle-rama take it up to 107 and add 575 cams and it's pretty sweet.  I don't think the softails have changed at all until 2011 when you can get cruise control.

You are right!! That one would be perfect. Real nice bike. The problem is I am just a regular working guy, so I don't have all the $ ready. Unlike some of my friends I can't just write him a check for it, but that would be nice. I will save that thread just in case it is still for sale later. Thanks, thats even one of the colors I think is pretty cool.
