Which bike would you buy?
« on: December 04, 2010, 04:20:16 PM »

1st this bike will be for my wife and I, to ride solo for fun, around town and or short trips. Trying to decide which bike to start with. 05 or 06 CVO Fatboy or used stock 08 Fatboy. Would probably not change the CVO Fatboy very much, as long as it was running good. If I start with the 08 Fatboy I would increase the 96" with a Big Bore kit,(undecided as to how much bigger), what ever paint and graphics the boss lady wants. I see the differences being in the frame design and the 08 has a 6-speed tranny. Don't know if the 6-speed would be a big deal for a fun bike around town and short trips. Is there a big difference in ride and handling from 05 to 08 models. I have pros and cons either way. Anyone have any thoughts, comments, ideas, hands on experience. Thanks in advance. Raining here today, stuck at home.

Thanks I was thinking someone on here told me 08 was the new frame... but I could be wrong. I know others on here can verify one way or another. Wife wants Fatboy. You have any experience with those. I like the Convert. but no luck convincing her, saw two nice ones at Smokey Mountain HD, Maryville last week.

This is all I could find on the 10 FLSTSE
"The suspension on the rear has been lowered a tad in comparison to the OE Softails"

Thanks for answering my question. From what I can tell they seem to be holding there value pretty well, maybe not as much as some sellers would hope but more than a non-CVO bike.

PierceEye that is a very nice bike, but you are missing the question. Which would you chose? 05 or 06 CVO Fatboy or 08 Fatboy that I modify. Your bike and a CVO Fatboy look very similar. Are they basically the same? Like the frame and stuff? Was that your point that they all look similar but with your 2010 CVO there is more bang for the buck and or less work to modify? Wife says she wants a Fatboy but it may be just the solid chrome wheels that she really wants and a Convt. CVO with Chrome solid wheels might pull her chain. Thanks for the .02.

Well I am sure if MOCO had made any major changes they would have advertised the fact. I don't think lowered a tad warrents a buy or don't buy decision. Thanks for looking up those facts.

Sorry maybe I did not really answer the question. Based on the info we have and my previous statement I would choose the 05/06 because the engine is better (IMHO) and can be upgraded (cams, pushrods, stuff) with more success and the CVO should hold resale value more than a non CVO based on not as many built, etc.

I knew what you meant. I had been thinking about the same points you mentioned. I also have been leaning toward the 05/06 CVO. I assume the 05/06 CVO could be upgraded to a 6-speed, although I am uncertain if it would be worth the $. I like the paint color and graphics on several of the 05/06 CVO's. So that would save money because I know I would want to get custom paint on a OE 08/09 Fatboy.
