Will do.

Just hope it's all sorted in the next 3 weeks, as have ferry crossings/accommodation booked for a road trip to Normandy, France to visit the WW2 beaches.

Have been told it is still ok to ride as normal, but have that niggling doubt in the back of my mind that something may fail, particularly being away from home.

I got an email bob wood that said the harley 99c lifters made in mexico were ngk(no good kind). Speakers made in china, forks made in japan, lifters made in mexico, what part of this made in america bike is made in americs?

Yes, common knowledge, that the Moco has those manufactured in Mexico, now.
We use either S&S, or Wood lifters here.

The S&S and the Woods directional lifters do seem to be common recommendations and gets lots of popular mention.  Especially the Woods more recently.  Perhaps just because they're the perceived latest and greatest thing.  They both are some of the more expensive options out there though.

Lifters that have been on the market and used for a long time without any reputation for failure, and that also are less expensive, are also available.  The HP+ from Feuling and the "Hylift" from Automotive Machine & Supply (AMS) both are considerably less expensive than the Woods product.

I prefer S&S with limiters and use them in my bike...but also have installed Woods with no complaints...   :nixweiss:

Have had all those mentioned in hand (except the Gatorman, that's a new one to me) and seen them used generally without issue.  Was just mentioning the Feuling HP+ and the AMS options as they've done well and are a little cheaper.  Can't say the same for the more expensive Feuling "race" lifters though.  Know of three failures using those.  Out of the small overall usage pool that's a scary number.

I know Jim (hd-dude) uses lots of the Feuling HP+ lifters and likes them...   :2vrolijk_21:

Can't say I've used them absolutely exclusively.  But nearly so for a long time.  Fortunately they just work.  No drama and relatively inexpensive.  At least compared to other Harley lifters.

Is crushing the lifter to .140 the thing to do?

Woods and Gaterman,
The Gatermans are individually checked for bleed and are ID ground rather than blind hole honed as most others are made. This allows a more precise fit of the plunger to main body, a very critical dimension, in the low tenths of a thousanth. They also have a pressure sde orifice fed axle.
http://www.gaterman.com/GMC%20Website/Gaterman%20Products%20Motorcycle%20Literature%202010.pdf
The Gaterman GP1020 lifters are OEM replacement lifters identical to the HD now discontinued "-B" lifter, the GP1023 are their race lifter with the enhanced features.
If bores are worn then I would run the Feuling very carefully after measuring with good gauging.

We actually gravitate more, towards the S&S lifters.
We carry both the Wood(mixed emotions on those)and S&S now, but for years the H-D "B" was our go-to.
Now with the "C", we have no place for those here. :o

Not to get too far off track but aren't S&S lifters the same as the Crane? I thought I heard they bought Crane up or maybe it was their stock of parts.
