UPDATE (GREAT news):

Got my JESTER back this afternoon, and Dillon Bros. H-D (in west Omaha, NE) let me keep my loaner (from their rental fleet) Ultra the entire time (9 days) that they had my Bike.  The culprit was a defective slave cylinder in the clutch, and it does feel QUITE different (and better) now than the first 1000 miles I put on her!

They offered to bring my bike to me at work and pick theirs up (I turned them down and rode out and got her), they filled my empty bike with Premium, AND the Dealership owner (an old friend) even sent me an email asking me to call him and let me know how it felt, and left me his cell number if I had any further problems.  This was AFTER both the Service Manager AND General Manager called and went thru the problem(s) they found in detail with me.

They ain't ALL STEALERS!!  A REFRESHING HUMP DAY AND I am back IN THE WIND!

The only dispiriting things about the entire affair is that initially they seem to have lose a fair bit of time to get "permission" to do a standard warranty job and then the entire task took more than a week for a pretty straight forward repair.  None of those clutch parts are a repar that takes hours and hours after all.

It's great they were so proactive with the loaner and so responsive with all the follow-up.  Just wish a brand new bikes relatively simple repair hadn't taken so long and that the shop could have handled without support from the MoCo.

Don,

I agree entirely with you...it appears to me that there is a concerted effort to make the claim process harder than 8-10 years ago.  Maybe HD has modified their business model to pay out less.  By making the process onerous they make it harder and possibly less likely to get a warrantee claim processed.  Just the need for the Regional Rep to approve before the moco approves bears this out.

This happened with my paint...before the moco would approve the replacement, the regional rep had to see it, then forward his recommendation along.  He does not approve the claim...so I was told.  Just another level of pain to get what we should have gotten by the Service Manager.

/Bill

:-/  Warranty System is being closely regulated by the Motor Company.  I had my scoot in twice to get the Horn fixed and each time they were instructed by the Motor Company to lub the Horn...each time on the way home it did not work!  Ended up buying a Horn myself to correct the problem.

I agree as well.  The main thing he's back on the road.  It sounds like you have a great dealer.

I also agree that each dealership is treated bt MoCo on their merit, thats why Bob Drons HD had to call for every little issue to get an OK, where I take it now, its not that way.

Gee folks I just can't help but wonder what the MOCO final inspectors are up to before the bikes leave the factory? As well as the product development and testing.
Seems to me it is costing more for the MOCO to have to repair the bikes afterwards than if the parts were fully tested and inspected before shipping. Not only to mention the damage to a reputation.
I know they must have tuff production quotas but as a customer I would rather have my bike ridden and tested a few more miles and defects caught before shipment than to have to deal with it at the dealership level and make multiple return trips.
I don't know if dealerships do this but maybe a system where the dealer fixes the problem then the "Defect" gets sent back to MOCO for inspection and testing to make improvements and to also document problem return rates vs. actual defect per dealership?

Some of you are very lucky in that your dealership has a rental or loaner fleet of bikes to work with. My dealership doesn't have that and even on warranty problems I have to find my own ride to or from the dealership. I find that very frustrating in that even most car dealerships have a Courtesy Van to take a customer home. I guess we can get spoiled by modern convieniences. ;D
