Youze guys going to make me think what my wife says about me (cheap ___) is true. I've got maps older then some of youze GPS. :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: I understand technology changes and more features may be added, but other then features isn't a GPS just to get you from point a to point b? Unless mine gets broke or stolen I'll more then likely keep it longer then 3/4 years. :nixweiss: Heh, but I'm the one that will buy a (new) vehicle and keep it for ten years too. ;D Hmmmm, maybe the wife is right.  :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

:D :D :D I can't remember the last time I bought a full set of tires for a car or truck.  When the tires are wore-out, it's time to get a new one ;)

Correction:  I did buy a new set of tires for a 02 WS6 TA we had.  Dang "Z Rated" tires are too soft and didn't last anytime at all

I just bought a set of tires this past fall and I think the time before that it was over 10 years ago. I would always joke w/people that I would do as you say get rid of a vehicle before it needed tires, but when you only putting them on every 8 years you can come close to doing that. ;D My current cage is a '00 GMC Yukon that just turned 50k.

My '00 jeep wrangler is at 89K...been tryin' to get tires for 6-months but something always came up...still need tires but very few keep 15" tires in stock

then last weekend,

Had a flat on Anne's tahoe over the weekend, another had a nail for the past 6 months.  A third need air every three weeks.

So Anne's Tahoe has 4 new sneakers and i am running barefoot...

She's happy, you feel better about her being out (alone) w/good sneakers now, and if you get stranded somewhere she'll come pick you up. ;D

My CUSE8 that I picked up on 30 November didn't have it - only a one-time update.  I went ahead and bought the lifetime update, but now I wonder if I should contact Garmin about getting the fee refunded.

Nope, not free... but by the time you pay for two updates then you've paid for lifetime maps. :)

It might interest you to know, that while I was buying a new Garmin for my wife yesterday, (at Due South, a registered Garmin dealer here in South Africa) the senior sales lady asked me why I wanted the lifetime maps. I did a double take and she told me that they were only good for the "lifetime of the device, deemed by Garmin South Africa to be no longer than two years".
I am sure that she was talking cr@p, but I will take this up with the head office and have someone put her right.
Like some others here, I have never owned a GPS before, but I'm buggered if I just bought two, and they are going to be obsolete in two years!

This is what it says currently on the Garmin website with regard to Lifetime Maps:
---------------------------------------
¹If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime subscription (sold separately or bundled together with certain GPS models), you will receive up to 4 map data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on Garmin’s website, for 1 compatible Garmin product until your product’s useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map data from its third party supplier, whichever is shorter. A product’s “useful life” means the period during which the product (a) has sufficient memory capacity and other required technical capabilities to utilize current map data and (b) is capable of operating as intended without major repairs. A product will be deemed to be out of service and its useful life to be ended if no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more. Unless otherwise stated, the updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same geographic map data originally included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. In some instances, your Garmin product might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update to the map data, in which case you will need to either (a) select reduced map data coverage for your updates, or (b) purchase separately a microSD™/SD™ card (if and as applicable to your Garmin product) and load all or a portion of the map data coverage for your updates to the card and insert the card into the microSD/SD card slot contained in your Garmin product. If neither of the measures in (a) or (b) can be used to address your product’s lack of sufficient remaining memory, then Garmin may conclude that the “useful life” of your product has expired. Garmin may terminate your nüMaps Lifetime subscription at any time if you violate any of the terms of this agreement or your subscription. Your nüMaps Lifetime subscription may not be transferred to another Garmin product.

²FREE lifetime traffic updates may not be transferred to another person or another Garmin product. Lifetime traffic extends for the useful life of your Garmin traffic receiver (as long as you own a compatible Garmin GPS) or as long as Garmin receives traffic data from its traffic supplier, whichever is shorter. A traffic receiver’s “useful life” means the period during which the receiver (a) has the required technical capabilities to utilize current traffic data service and (b) is capable of operating as intended without major repairs. Traffic content not available for all areas. See traffic coverage areas.

Thanks Jerry. I would interpret that as, as long as you are doing the updates regularly and your unit is accepting them you would still be eligible for them. The post that was quoted of mine was back in 2009 and I'm still using the lifetime updates and Zumo that I originally purchased. Which reminds me I probably should do an update since it's been awhile.
