The 570 IS a nice camshaft and performs well ONCE you up the compression to 10 - 10.5:1. A stock engine is down around 9.3:1. If your going to do a camshaft design for a bolt in application that means you work with a 9.3 compression ratio in mind. IMHO S&S has chosen not to go after that end of the market, they could, but they have not with there current camshaft offerings. This is in no way saying that S&S camshafts are no good, its just that there are others that perform much better in the bolt-on, stock engine range. If your plans include raising the compression up to the 10+ range then the .570 performs well, if your plans are  in the stock compression range then I would use something else. I've run plenty of various camshafts in testing, all in 96, 103 and 110 and this holds true across them all.

Such as for a 103?

Since is an easy start thread - is there a grind for the CVO 103 without doing the heads or raising the CR?

And is there a version of that cam for the hybrid plate?

As I said for STOCK compression ratio there are better grinds out there so they would NOT be and easy-start since that is S&S only feature. If were going to include other camshaft brands for a STOCK 103 I would go with a Feuling 543C, HD 255, 254E or Andrews TW26H, TW37H for low end torque. If you wanted to give up a little low end torque for higher RPM power switch to Feuling 574C, Andrews TW48H

I can not say this enough, these are for a stock compression ratio 103 motor! These also work very well in a 96 motor except I would not try the TW48H. If your going to raise the compression I would personal pick other grinds!

Not sure if the 583 is offered in easy start, as that cam optimizes at 9.4 cr, and the OE 110" is 9.2.
FWIW, Strickly Wicked Cycles in the San Fran Bay area, recently tuned a 98" combo of ours, using the Salinas, CA. clients existing 583's.
120.0 ft/lbs, and 95.4 hp...........at 9.4 cr.
Might be worth taking a look at.

So, we put the bike back together yesterday afternoon, replaced my S&S 585s with a set of the 551 easys... only rode it home and haven't had a chance to heat the motor up to see how the starts are, when I do I'll post what I think.

I've been on the bike for a couple hours now, at every stoplight I shut the bike down and restart, if there are no lights I shut it down and restart every 10 minutes or so...

There is a definite difference with the new cams, it can be heard after the first revolution of the motor.

I also tore the starter down and replaced the starter clutch yesterday, but I don't think that had anything to do with my hot starting issues, and obviously I had the problem with the clutch hub, but again I don't think that was my issue.

I did find some burrs on the ring gear, that might have something to do with high compression, regardless, as it stands on day one of the instal, I'm happy with the cams... really strong pull at low end of the rpm scale, but the bottom line is that this mod is less than a compression release.

If there are any bumps in the road with them down the road I'll advise.

Why did you pick the 551's?

585s were much better than the ones I had before, but I was looking for a little more bottom end.
