Extended Service Plan
« on: September 05, 2013, 09:56:12 AM »

My 2010 FLHXSE came up lame last night while I was on my way to dinner.  I have the ESP from HD, my question is regarding who can fix the bike under this service contract?  I will not go back to the "Selling Dealer" (that's a long story), and my bike has always been mainted by a local shop close to my home.  All scheduled maintenance has been done and documented.

Has anyone had luck with the service plan provider working with non HD shops to fix a problem?

Not all ESP's are the same and there are several out there.  The terms of the contract control so you have to read it.  Usually "approved" shops are required.  An independent shop can get approval from the ESP.  If you have a shop you want to use, it can seek approval.

Thanks for the reply, I happened to break down about 10 feet from my mechanics trailer at bike night last night.  I'm hoping that it's nothing big, but I'm really not interested in taking it in to the local HD dealer, thier service department is not good!

I would be curious to know what happened since I have the same bike.

Mechanic is working on it now, hoping that it's a compensator issue and an easy fix.  If so, won't need to test the warranty.

Just in case you did not see this thread:  2014 SE Compensator 42200064

I am upgrading mine now.  No ESP coverage for upgrades.

Thanks, hoping that's the problem but not sure.  It was a noise coming from that area, it was strange how it happened.  Seemed to run fine, then all of a sudden wouldn't idle and detonation was all off.  Luckily I was really close to my mechanic, so didn't ride it far to kill the engine and load it in his trailer.  It's not a good sign that he thought he would have it handled early this morning and have not heard from him yet.

Found out that the crank went bad in the motor.  Good news is that it sounds as if ESP is going to cover.

That's good news the ESP will cover it!   :2vrolijk_21:

That's what I said...shocking!  You can clearly hear the crank slopping around in the bottom of the engine.  Luckily I was about a block away from my mechanic's business when it let go.  I'm thinking that I may take a settlement and spend a bit of $ to put in a S&S 111 motor.

Or a 124!  :2vrolijk_21:

Of course, then you'll burn up your clutch... and probably your tranny, too....  :'(

Good luck!
