I had the exact same problem accompanied by vibrations in the bar, but only in hot weather. The problem went from bad to worst when I filled her up with at an old gas station. My guess is that they don't sell premium gas very often there, so I got bad gas.
I installed a Night Rider enrichment device (which doesn't void warranty) and haven't had an issue since then. This is simply not the same bike. I know it's not like a full tuning but, for $100 and 5 minutes of my time....
There also is a side effect that I was not expecting. I was told that the engine would run colder but I didn't think the difference would be that big!
So far, the only drawback I see is the gas smell on idle, but it's not that bad...
Expert advice needed: why is the engine running colder when adding more fuel in the mixture? Is all this a too good to be true situation? Should I change my spark plug more often? ...?
