What's the best way to prevent damage to chrome fasteners?
« on: February 02, 2015, 11:22:58 PM »

Specifically thinking about changing the brake and clutch bracket screws ( T27) over to chrome. I don't want to look in there down the road and see rust.

On my last two Road Glides,  I changed all the fasteners to chromed stainless.   You should not have any issue with the brake and clutch bracket screws.  I do two things for the vertical allen bolts:  blow dry after washing and occasionally, dab in some WD-40 with a q-tip. No rust.

I stole a bottle of wife's clear nail polish. After I install a fastener a little dab and I never have a rust problem.

Use the clear touch up where the torx bit fits.

Use high quality tools that fit correctly, along with the other suggestions above.

The best way is to use the polished hi-grade stainless fasteners. (aftermarket)

Alloyboltz or Diamond Engineering. They have great supplies of polished Stainless Steel bolts.

Polished SS is the way to go with the occasional WD40 application.
