Best Cam for a 2015 Ultra Limited
« on: February 03, 2015, 06:39:36 PM »

I have  brother wishing to get more power from his New 2015 Limited  Low   My plans are to remove the Cat from the pipe  and weld it back together  Use a decent slip on muffler     SE air cleaner    PCV tuner  My question is what is a good cam choice to get more umpf without opening up the cylinders to raise compression?   GMR?

Asking someone to pick out a cam for you can be a bit like asking someone to pick out a wife for you. What may be a great selection for one guy could be terrible for another. Maybe not entirely true but somewhat perhaps. I have used the GMR cam in a 107 application and it worked very well. I installed a T-Man Torqster today in a 2013 SE Street Glide and it works very well also. Riding style and area peak torque is achieved are probably the key questions you need to ask yourself when selecting a wife.  ;D

Will the GMR perform well without a compression ratio bump?

The 107 I tuned with a set of them worked very well at a lower dynamic compression ratio than I typically set motors up at but since I did not build the engine (neither did GMR) and was only involved with the tuning phase, I had no input on anything other than the tune. To be fair, that question would be better left for Steve (GMR) to answer. To add to that, I had been trying to reach Steve in hopes of getting a couple of sets of the cams from him recently to run in another couple of motors but due to circumstances I won't go into details about, those cams were no longer an option for the purposes originally needed, unfortunately.

I'm told Steve has been moving so I'm sure with that and his workload, he is very busy. Contact him or some of the members here who are running them. I have not seen any negative reports on the Genesis cams. Looking at IVC alone could lead one to believe they might benefit from more squeeze but I don't recall other specs from the cams that play into CCP and not to speak for GMR but I don't think Steve typically subscribes to the notion of cranking up compression for marginal gains but I am speaking out of turn regarding that. Again, you'll have to ask Steve at GMR.

Here is a box stock 103 with a 2-1 pipe.  SO yes it does work extremely well with a stock 103 . Adding compression will work better. But as a bolt in it does very well. I have read a few posts that have said 10.5  I have no issues with stock compression to increased.  I will say that when we get our orders in they go very fast.  It has been some what of an issue to keep them in stock even with 48 sets that came in first of Jan they are gone already.. The new order was placed and they will be here shortly. Nothing wrong with pre order if that helps.

Both are stock engines bolt i cam only with 100% stock compression

I just put the GMR 577, Fulsac DX and 2.0 cores with screens into a 2015 CVORG. Do not yet have a dyno sheet due to having used Thundermax with auto tune. Will throw it on a dyno for a few WOT pulls next week. At same time, I put on a 31 tooth transmission pulley to add a few more HP/TQ.

Put about 200 miles on this bike so far after mods. Huge improvement in throttle response. Pulls hard thru 5800 rpm. Butt Dyno guesstimate is 108 / 115 HP/TQ maybe a few more. Will post once I get a sheet. This is my 5th or 6th Thundermax unit and I am still buying them for a reason.

a Andrews 57 vs the new Ho cam in the limited 103 CI.

Is not a great choice . Being that the only gain you will see is a few HP. The HO cam does a very good job of producing  tq. Going to need a bigger cam that the 57 to show nice % of change when backed up against the HO cam.

Again based on real world  tuning of the stock twin cooled in stage 1 vs the andrews 57 in the same bike. You get a tq bump in a small rpm range. Its not going to pull our much further when compared to the new HO cam..

Now the olds stock cam different story.. But that is not what we are dealing with..

Just installed the new tts cam... that's right tts100. Feels very good from 2000rlm on.
Still working in the tune. Cam fulsac stainless dx pipe and recrored cvo mufflers 2in core.
Everyone knows tts builds a great product.
Will get a Dyno run after tune expecting 100 ft. Lbs tq at about 2300 and carry that to about 4800.
Remember tq pulls the bike down the road not hp.

Steve not to diss you by any means what so ever but by your statement then the 577 that you sell would be in the same boat then. I've seen several runs from both these cams and there pretty close as far as hp & tq go and the gain over the HO cams can be as much as 9hp or so and 9 to 10 tq over the HO cams. I'll agree the HO's are a great improvement over the rest of the stock 103 cams but to say the improvement wouldn't be worth the change I guess is in the decision of the OP's. Again I'm not trying to start anything at all, heck I've got your lifters and almost chose your cams as well and I really appreciate your comments and incite and I know your on the leading edge of tuning as well I'm just stating a comment from what you said. Maybe you can elaborate more and I'll see what you mean ?

9hp or so and 9 to 10 tq over the HO cams

I am interested in this. Were the tests back to back same dyno and only change was the cam and both were tuned properly? Do you have any examples to show? My question is not to discredit anyone but to learn a little.

I'll post mine up for you. This was just a bolt in cam tuned with a Powervison tuner. You can see in my sig. what all I had.

The 2015 103 has plenty of power. Personally I would just give a good exhaust, high flow breather, and ride it.
