Anyone ever dealt with Doc from Dr Dyno? Considering having him take a look at the tune. Getting nowhere fast with previous tuner. he claims that everything is perfect, but I tend to disagree. After visiting with a few guys out at sturgis my mileage sucks ass. I see Doc will be in my area soon but dont want to spend money on another tuner thats gonna leave me feeling robbed. I did get myself a new set of S&S power duels while i was out ther as well!!  love the sound of them!!

No experience with him but I think (not positive) that he only works with power commanders. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong but you might want to check into that.

Again, I'm not positive on this, but I do know one of those mobile dyno guys only uses power commander products.  I think it's him.

Could be. just received a message back from him. he says my stock computer may not have enough range to tune my motor properly and then i would need to get a PC V. I guess ill keep looking for a reputable tuner that knows what he is doing with the PV. Sometimes living in the mid-west sucks....

If it is the same person I believe Dr. Dyno is, I personally I wouldn't use him or any other tuner that said he could tune a bike without a brake on the dyno.   Easy enough to find out if he has a brake on his dyno.

Where are you located. There's plenty of great tuners in the mid-west if you willing to drive a couple hours.

"he says my stock computer may not have enough range to tune my motor properly"

Nonsense. With TTS, SESPT, PV spot on tuning can be done if the operator takes the time.
Just because he's been around a long time doesn't mean he's kept up with ever changing technology. Traveling dyno operators remind me of carnival tattooist's.

FWIW:  Fred aka Dr. Dyno has been around for many, many years and YES he does know what he is doing.  I don't know of anyone who has used him that was unhappy with their results.

He will tune SE products too IF you bring all of the nesessary support goodies with you.

He has published several articles on Tuning over the years in a few of the leading magazines. I found the articles to be useful reference points periodically.

As far as the comment by the next poster, you may have misunderstood Dr. Dynos point. I think he was trying to convey that a STOCK HD ECM new or used by itself will only allow so much fine tuning. To go further you will need a...(insert your choice) PV, SERT, TTS, or other product.

The message he sent me reads as follows.

Baseline runs is $100 tuning with the powervision would be another 300 but the stock computer may not have enough range for your engine. In that case we'd need a power Commander 5 to get the bike tuned properly

I read that to mean he doesn't think it could be properly tuned with a vision.

Icy,
I would find another tuner.
On my buddies dyno we have tuned my own 124, 131, and a 120r with a PowerVision so saying it won't tune yours effectively is wrong.   I think you are getting miss information or information that supports the only way someone can do a tune because there is no brake.  Because there is no brake on the dyno is the reason he is pointing you to the PC5, because he can use it somewhat by doing roll-ons  (Sweeps) throughout the range one after another to try and capture data in the cells as he revs yours out.    The PC or PV would really need a brake to do it efficiently albeit a carb'd bike.

The PowerVision allows you to tune and leverage the manifold pressure system by delphi vs. PC5 which is alpha-n running on top of the manifold pressure that is built into your bikes fueling system.

I would call Dynojet and ask them if they felt the PV couldn't tune your bike.    :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

You can also ask them who in your area is tuning with WinPV and the new features they just released to the tuners.

He could wait until Fred is in his area and go over and watch him tune a few bikes. If he's happy then get a tune if not use Plan "B".

Some years ago I had my 2003 RG 88 CI with Rinehart TD's and SE Breather built out to a 95 CI  Andrews 37G's and tuned with a SE tuner by a HD dealer, I wasn't impressed at all and I felt it was money wasted, pinging on roll ons, decell popping in fact I felt no power increase I wasn't happy at all!  I took this bike to Johnson Engine Technologies in Rhode Island and let him have at it and he tunes with Direct Link. After Bob Johnson was done with the motor ( Reworked Heads) I couldn't believe how smooth and how much fun it was to ride this bike again. Meanwhile I had heard a lot about Dr. Dyno and read his many magazine articles and don't doubt that he is very knowledgeable and experienced, ( YOU CAN TELL BY LOOKING AT HIS TRAILER AND DYNO) "LOL"  I came across Dr. Dyno at the Amaeicade in NY about a year or so later started talking to him about tuning. I told him what I have and who did the motor work he stated he familiar with Bob Johnson and he does good motor work! When I inquired about doing a baseline to compare to what I already had he gave me a $ quote and stated if I wanted him to tweak the tune I had to buy a PC Tuner from him he would not use my Direct Link!   I happily rode off into the mountains of NY State.

PC 5 is a box intended to fool the OE ECM. You don't need another box, software and a competent tuner is what you need. If you want a great running bike, travel may be necessary to find a tuner, but well worth the expense, IME.
