Tuner & Stock exhaust
« on: February 04, 2015, 10:10:51 AM »

I have a 13 CVO Ultra. Last winter I purchased the fullsac kit consisting of 2" baffles, the X pipe and the TTS tuner.

Never felt a real heat reduction or mileage increase but power is good. What I am feeling though and need to correct is the noise level. I am tired of momma telling me its too loud.

I know I can try the 1.75 baffles but I was thinking of just installing a set of stock mufflers off of another CVO.
If I do install stock mufflers
1. Do I need to retune it?
2. If I do not retune it will I hurt anything?
3. What are the downsides of doing this without a retune besides the fact that I am not getting the most out of the TTS?

Thanks for the help.

Ear plugs are the answer you seek.  ;)

I can't say for sure but if I were you I would contact Fulsac to see if they have a TTS map for that combination. You would definitely have more back pressure with a stock can which would change the way the engine breathes.

Hey Chief,
If you choose to go the Fullsac route, I just purchased a set of Fullsac 1-3/4" baffles and the muffler screens with new packing,
I installed these on a 2012 stock CVO muffler. I have less than 80 miles on them, I then decided to install the set of Supertrapp Megashots I had on the bike and now I will look to sell the mufflers if youre interested. All this was just done in the last week, so its all new.

No I dont have any dyno results yet. I hadnt planned it on the fulsacs, but I am going to go with a TTS and tune after I get my replacement head pipe from ST. With those pipes on my stage 4 103 it made 124/121

Nobody specifically answered your questions Chief, so I thought I'd indicate my experience with my Tribal CUSE8. I'm far from knowledgeable on this but can relate what I went through:
1. You probably should to get it running as good as you can, but it would probably be okay without a new tune for a time. I say this because I changed to Fullsac headers and V&H Monster ovals and ran my bike without re-tuning. Later I purchased a SERT from my local dealership and everything went downhill... When they got through it ran so poorly I had to find a professional tuner - I was glad I did. I may switch over to TTS this summer, but would have it re-tuned if so.
2 & 3. It could run lean, mine sure did after my dealer got involved. You can check the trouble codes to see if this indicates anything to be corrected. I'm certain you can get a TTS map exactly for or near to match your system. There are many on this site who could explain in detail the what and why when it comes to tuning.

The V&H Monster Oval slip-ons aren't too loud on my bike, at least to me in any event. I like the tone and acceptable decibel level. I'm pleased with the change; however, I'm not trying to spend your money and see the value of re-installing the stock slip-ons. My state was becoming really critical on pipe noise so I kept that in mind when shopping aftermarket pipes. I even considered leaving it stock due to this, but needed to cool it down some. My dealership changed the pipes because they assured me they would keep the scoot stickered for inspections.

You may want to check with whoever did the tune on it.Not knowing where you're at it's hard to say "yes or no" to not needing a recalibration.
If the tune was correct before you go to smaller baffles, you will probably be ok not changing anything else.

There IS a slight difference in noise between the smaller baffles and going larger.....
JMHO, as usual.

The tune that I have came from Fullsac along with the X pipe and 2" baffles. It was not put on a dyno.

Try sending Steve (Fullsac) a PM or an email. I'm sure he can answer your questions and he might be able to provide a new map for use with the stock mufflers.
