CVO FLHXSE Street Glide - Best Paint Protector? Hog Skins?
« on: February 11, 2015, 12:18:00 AM »

Since I have until May til my CVO Street Glide Mercury and Quartz arrives I've been thinking about upgrades and items to do to make it last for years. I've heard that HOG Skins, Scotchguard and other products work well to protect the paint from chips. Some others say they yellow after years, some say no they look great forever, what is the best product to install and does anyone know for sure if they yellow or have they advanced the products to last??? Please advise you experts on here...
Thanks

I truly believe one of the best ways to preserve the finish is a cover to block the harm the sun (uv light) does over time. cover and indoor storage. you may be talking protectants as in hog skins sorry if that is what you meant!

Motorcycle Armor, a vendor offering a discount to our forum, has kits to protect paint on fenders, tanks, etc. I purchased a kit to protect the tops of my hard bags from them and have been pleased with the results. The film can be removed or replaced for whatever reason and their website details how to go about it. Nice people also, you may wish to check them out mkevns...

I may be way off base here but I believe short of storing your baby in protective bubble wrap year round, knicks and scratches are going to happen if you intend to ride it and not just look at it. I say don't worry about it...ride it, log all the miles you can and enjoy. Its the only way to get you monies worth.
Good Luck with the new Love of your Life.

No matter what brand you use it looks like crap, even when new IMHO, it is clear plastic, it shows, how can it look good? What kind of conditions do you have there? I have been riding for 50 years and never used a plastic protection product and keep my bikes looking like new, Just do not see a need. Keep them clean, wax with any good carnuba product and do not tailgate. Most guys I know that do have chips are terrible at riding too close behind cars/trucks etc that are going to slow to suit them.

Agree with cvo don. Lots and lots of wax. Worse case scenario get the part repainted. I used a clear product called Tank Slapper on my triumph sport touring bike. Did the trick but didn't look so great...
