Progressive rear shocks?
« on: February 16, 2015, 12:51:01 AM »

Ok I have a 2010 CVO Convertible that I bought In December and I am wanting to upgrade the stock shocks. I am wanting to go with the progressive 422 rear shock setup with the RAP remote adjustable preload. The question I have is has anyone used these and are they happy with them? I also am trying to figure out rather I should go with the standard spring or the heavy duty spring? I ride two up majority of the time I am 255# and the wife is 132# any suggestions would be much appreciated.

my only advice is that Progessive shocks are crap - at all price points.  I replaced the stock shocks on my 2011 CVO SG at Daytona 2 yrs ago w/ 944's and the shocks were absolute crap.  just my 2 cents.

I think the Progressive 944's are probably the best shock on the market, I have had a couple sets, they work great, Adjusted correctly they are definitely a superior product and have excellent customer service.

Ditto, I've had nothing but good luck with the Progressive brand. Once the "sag" is set, you are good to go.

When I was looking for suspension upgrades, I've talked to a few members, in person, at couple diffrent GTG's and they advised on Progressive. The had every expensive suspension set up there was, and they advised for the cost vs effectiveness, Progressive is the way to go...

Now, That was my experience and I will prob have some members tell me the nerves in their lower extremeties are more sensitive than others and paying 5k for a new suspension is worth the money... I say no and be extremely Happy with my rides.

I put the 422s with RAP on my '07 Softail Springer.  They are a little better than stock, and the remote adjustment is convenient but the mechanism is ugly.  Not sure if it's hidden by your saddlebags.

I'm 195# and the gf is 130.  I can't tell you if they work better or worse for more weight--no saddlebags on mine, and we never carry much on it.  HTH

The progressive 944's are far from the best on the market, not even close.

The Progressive 944 were a big step up from the JUNK 12 Air shocks that came stock on the 09 SERG.  The were set up on my bike by Progressive.

They are about the same or slightly better than the HD Profile low, hand adjustable shocks that came on my 12 SERG and my 13 SERK.    It was not worth the money to replace the HD Hand adjustable with the 944s as they were so close.

Well I put Ohlin HD 159 on the 15 SERGU and they are so much better than progressive 944.  It the difference between a Chevy Cruise and a Caddy CTS.

Ohlin are so much better I will be getting another set for the 13 SERK.

Other shocks much better than the progressive are: Works, Race tech, Suspension Technologies and a few others.

Cost of Ohlins is stupid, but Regardless of that guy at there booth in Daytona during Biketoberfest knew less about his product than I did. End of my interest right there.

Curious as to which booth in Daytona Biketoberfest?  The one at the speedway sure turned me off, new nothing and couldn't explain anything about them.  The guy at Destination Daytona knew lots, best explanation of shocks I have ever heard.  He also could explain why Ohlins were one of the best with out putting down other companies or using the other companies names.

250 More for the Ohlin HD159 vice the Progressive 944 was well worth the huge performance improvement.  I have owned both, Have over 45K miles on the 944's.

Dave,
Hoping I get the ride that I am paying for the Ohlins #6.  Just bought a set, as I have played way too much with the progressives.  Either I had a nice ride, and loose in the corners.  Or rough ride and a sport bike handling in the corners.  I'll have alot more adjustability with these new ones.

With these Ohlins I change the compression/rebound about 8 clicks looser for freeway than where I have them normally.  Live where the road are nice and twisty so I have them set for corners 90% of the time.  They are not rough set here just much firmer.

Mine are the middle of the road Ohlins, they have one model less expensive and one more expensive, the ones your getting.  Those are what I am looking at for my CVO Road King as I will not sell or trade it, its my hot rod and an anniversary bike to go with my 100th anniversary Fatboy.

8 clicks is what they also told me for riding solo.  They are setting them up due to I have the tour pack that originally did not come with the bike, plus total rider weight etc.  Looking forward to putting them on.
