fulsac rubs on true-track
« on: February 16, 2015, 07:39:40 PM »

I have a 2015 SERG. I installed Fullsac DX pipe and True-Track. The DX pipe, just touches the corner of the true track where the clamp holds the left side cross under joint. IS this OK? There is no relative motion between these two since both are bolted to the motor???

Has anyone else found this? I was more worried about heating up the oil and transferring vibration.

I would suggest grinding the Tru track back just enough to get clearance between them. The pipe vibrates and
will eventually loose the battle as its only .065 thick.

You have to clearance the tru-trac, it WILL wear a hole in pipe.

Why do you need a tru track on a new bike anyway?    I had one on my 04 but that was the old frame where you needed one.    I have a 12 and never one time did I even think of adding one,,,  just sayin.  ,,,,

The fact that the need was eliminated by the complete redesign of the frame and engine mounting system didn't stop companies from pushing their products for the new models.  This is just one example of many where companies continue to promote their products for a problem that no longer exists.  The alternative would be to accept lower and eventually no sales, or perhaps they could find new products to offer that really are worthwhile, but that takes more work than just misleading people to buy the old stuff.

Thank you for the feedback! I will pull the pipe and the truetrack then have it clearance as suggested.

As for why true-track? It goes well with the glide-pro, the Front Ohlins Cartridges that Howard is making up and the JRI rear shocks that GMR had delivered. Having seen a 100+ mile per hour tank slapper right before my eyes on an ultra on a straight road..........Thankfully, the Rider lived, bike died on the spot.

With all that said, I do agree the 2015 CVORG was the best handling stock Harley I ever purchased. We ride a LOT in the sierra foot hills and push the corners a lot.....Stock, it still pogo sticked and wallered in the corners. Are those real words???? ::)

The new frame and suspension is greatly improved. However, I would point out the rubber mount issue with tracking STILL exists and STILL gets better with the true-track use. Much improved over 2007 cvo, but still there.

Push a stock new frame bike thru the corners and you WILL see what I mean. I tried it without, before adding the true-track for the very reason Jerry mentioned. I was hoping the new frame/suspension did not require it for stable high speed cornering.

I tried the other option of just going slower in the twisties, but something about the FBW would just not allow it!  :)

For most riders, I believe all the bike needs is a set of rear shocks to make it handle very acceptably.

Why do you need a tru track on a new bike anyway?
Because it's for sale? Or is to save lives due to poorly designed engine mounting?
I remember when tru-track first came out their website said if you didn't use their product you were risking your life due to a "missing third link" which caused an out-of-control condition.

I agree with Jerry on this. I feel obligated to reply to this just so that others think twice before getting one. I have a TrueTrack, and Ohlins on my older 08 Street Glide and it NEEDS it! Even with the TrueTrack at 80+ corners it starts to wobble. I have pushed my new (stock suspension) Street Glide through the same corner(s) at 100+ and it does NOT need a TrueTrack. It is tracking absolutely superior in the corners and straight line. I can not speak to the RG tracking.

IMHO.

I put one on the front and felt an immediate difference.  Then the rear one came in the mail and felt no improvement at all.  I went back and forth taking the dog bone off just to see if it was a placebo effect and it was not.  The front makes a difference in handling, it just tightens things up.

Sorry, which front one are you referring to?
I thought they only made the dogbone mount for touring bikes?
Bob
BTW- check out this video from True-track's website...pretty funny! Come tell lost all control of the bike at 25mph!

True-Track
20-00-09FTS
So they figure the front mounts are not good enough, or improperly designed, so they add a solid link that is guaranteed to transfer vibration to the rider?
Do we have ANY empirical evidence there is a problem with the latest engine and drivetrain mounting design?
I have yet to hear of, or experience, any rear steer issues with the new frame/mounting design.
Yet another product to fix something that's not broke?
