What bikes/years are gunslinger paint?
« on: March 03, 2015, 11:09:55 AM »

I've seen mentioned "Gunslinger Painted" bikes, usually with some story of dissatisfaction. What bikes/years are Gunslingered?

All CVO's??? All Harley's???

Harley has it's own paint operations for the regular models, only the CVO's are painted by outside vendors.  Gunslinger was/is the vendor Harley used on the Breakout CVO's, and there were many problems with that paint process.  I have no idea if they do any of the Touring CVO parts; in the past that was done by a different outside vendor called Caliber that also shipped a lot of crap over the years.  No matter which outside vendor Harley uses, if they ship bad parts to Harley then Harley will just install them anyway and let the customer and dealer worry about it.  It's been that way since at least 2005, when I had several obvious paint defects that took a lot of hassle and time to get resolved, along with many others who bought 2005 CVO's.

Thanks Jerry. I guess I got lucky. I always go over my bikes with a fine tooth comb. I'll check them in the sun, in the shade, and with a bright flash light. I'm not a body and paint expert, but I've found nothing on my CVO. I did notice a couple of tiny spots on the tank of my 2010 Heritage when I got that bike. They looked like little air bubbles that popped then got clear coated so you couldn't feel them, but if you looked in the right place and with the right light you'd see them.

HD used a company called Colormania for CVO paint from 1998-2002 (means model year 1999-2003). After that I think they switched to Gunslinger.
