Best Affordable Battery with Long Life?
« on: March 04, 2015, 10:42:49 PM »

It's battery replacement time. System charges 14.2 vdc when revving. Cleaned all cables and starter solenoid. Removed battery and took it to Autozone  to load test. They said is was weak. I really don't want to spend 350 to 400 Bucks for a Lithium Ion battery. Who makes a good battery. I have heard the
Harley batteries are not so good anymore.

I bought a Chrome Battery for $89 to my door. Main reason I did was I thought it was made in Indiana. Another member showed me otherwise, but it has been in over 3 years w/ no prob.

I have a 2012 cvo with 17k miles and the original battery. How much longer can I expect to get out of the original battery?

Whoops...sorry for hijacking your post Itank. Thought it would be a good place to do so though.
Also I may have accidentally hit the "Report to Moderator" button...if so sorry again.

In some ways the wrong question.  Instead consider "how soon should I replace it without worrying about having to push that almost 1/2 ton pig home or up on a trailer."  I change mine every four years whether they've given a problem or not.  AGM batteries rarely give much tell-tale signal of an impending failure.  So you generally won't know.  So I change it on a schedule that feels safe.  If before that fourth year is up I start even sniffing a battery weakness I'll change it then too.

Thanks Twolanerider,
Sounds like good advice. I will keep an eye on it this conning year and look to replace it next.

Went through this a few months back. 4 year old original battery in a 2011.  Always thought I would go Dekka when replacing but friend of mine did that about 18 months ago and it just recently died.  Back in November I started feeling like my Ultra was not cranking as quickly as original.  It had never gone dead or failed to crank.  Had a 15% off discount at local dealer so just bit the bullet and put an HD back in it.  Guess 4 years sounds about right although I've heard folks go 5 to 6 years.

Yuasa makes a good battery IME, as is the OE, but man have they got out of hand price wise.

I still buy the Harley batteries, however tend to have to agree with Two lane to replace on a schedule before you are stranded.  Mine died at a gas stop in PA while we were on way to Chappy'sfuneral last year.  Lucky for me we were within ten minutes of a dealer and  GH took my old one and picked up a new one for me.  By the way it was my original battery and yes I waited to long.  Always keep n battery tender when not in use.
