And in South Carolina you can marry your sister. Saves on the travel time.

Growing up in The Lowcountry, my idea of foreplay; "Wake up sis..."

I currently live in Coronado.  Some consider it heaven on earth.....others refer to it as Paradise.  But the state that has the best riding in the nation is Western Colorado.  I envy San Juan Ron.......lives on the California coast (just north of here) in the winter and up in the Colorado Rockies in the summer.  I can only dream.........

yea, maybe 60-70 days a year at most?

I really do want a summer place in SW CO... winter in Fl.

Amen. That would be pretty awesome.

We were thinking winter in the Keys and summer in the Smokies!

Good thinking there Jesse.  Not bad options on either one of those.  Be glad to have y'all a bit closer when you move on down to SC... :2vrolijk_21:

This movement is because we like the state the way it is and don't give a damn how it's done back home.

I think the government of South Carolina supports your view as well Mikey... I was conducting family research at the state archives in Columbia a few years ago. I walked up to the counter to speak with the staff and viewed a sign stating, 'We don't care how you do it up north'...  :2vrolijk_21:

For me personally I love being near the coast because I love my saltwater inshore fishing just like my motorcycle riding, heck I even own a charter fishing business. But I was wondering if you have looked into Arkansas? I really dont know what their taxes are like but I have taken a motorcycle trip up there to the Hot Springs area and the roads were awesome. Just wanted to give you another area to look into.

I have lived on both coasts and spent time in TX but i settled in E. TN. As my wife have enjoyed motorcycling over the last five years and traveled quite a bit we continually remark that we have the best overall access to some of the best riding in the country. The desert south west of the four corners is fantastic but all things considered for total living experience we love to call this place home.

Reasons to choose E TN:

1. Four season none to extreme
2. Some of the most famous and interesting roads are all day rides
3. Two oceans are an easy two day bike trip. Hard cores one day interstate.
4. Taxes reasonable, they are all to much
5. Land and home costs are good.
6. Country living is for me, there are still some remote places up here that town is 45 minute drive if you like that.
7. Knoxville is central to the area and if you live there you are not in the boonies.
8. VA hospital
9. Great friendly people IF you respect the way of life and ease into community, this is southern appalachia and traditions and ways of thinking are well established.
10. The place is lousy with HD dealerships and motorcycles. That means there are nearly an excessive number of dealers and bikes around here. On an early spring day of good weather on a Saturday you have to learn to drive with one hand for all the waving to other bikers in oncoming traffic. LOL

Those are the ones that easily come to mind. I would have to add that other interests or activities need to be considered because life is more than Harleys. Or is it? I like the hunting and fishing here.  Good hunting for your dream home.

I know it is listed on your "NOT" list but it would be worthwhile to reconsider South Dakota, specifically in the area around the Black Hills.  South Dakota has no income tax, weather around the Rapid City area is generally nice even in the winter, low population except for a couple of weeks either side of the 1st of August, and within decent riding distance to even places like Denver Colorado.  Good roads, Fort Meade Vets hospital just north of Sturgis, low humidity.  Fits my definition of God's country.  Finally, though I am not from South Dakota, if I can pull it when I retire, would seriously consider anything ij the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Given how cold and for how long it can stay cold, I was seriously questioning your choice as a place to move.  Then I noted where you are now and damn.........you would indeed be moving further South.  Clearly it's all "relative" to what you like and are used to. :drink:

EAST TN....

Dr D summed it up pretty well.

Day ride back roads to Panama City Beach for the spring and fall rally.

11 hour interstate ride to Daytona, or a real nice easy two day back road ride.

Day ride to Myrtle Beach.

Smokey Mounts are your local riding area, as is NC and North GA.

Great hilly, curvy two lane roads everywhere.

Friendly people, lots of lakes and river and mountains.

Knoxville has every thing you need in a City, but I live 45 minute out on a lake, in the country, nice twisty two lane most the way to Knoxville.

No income tax, property tax is low, housing is reasonable.

I choose TN for those reasons and more when I retired from the Navy in 2001.  My wife nor I ever plan to leave other than for vacation.

Spidey??? That's not a very nice thing to say about Texas. I have never been there but to me, anyplace you can open carry without any hassle can't be all bad...just saying.
What is it about Texas don't you like?
