good deal or no ?
« on: March 11, 2015, 09:10:41 PM »

I found a 2011 Heritage with about 16K on it, bike has a limited production Harley paint set ( green and black ) a 96 " motor , 6 speed trans , abs , security system , Memphis windshield, saddle bags , screemin eagle pipes , bike is absolutely perfect from my inspection , ( not an expert ).
Is the 96" motor a good one or were there known problems with them?  Seller wants $12.5
Is that a reasonable price?
What should I look for as far as known problems ?
Seller bought the bike new and is now to old to ride anymore.
Thanks for your input.

According to the two "books" I consult, the trade in value is around $10k and the retail value at a dealership is around $13.8k.  It looks like he is trying to split the difference between what a dealer would give him and what it would go for retail, which is not a bad way to go for the seller or the buyer.  You could counter offer a bit lower if you're thinking it's overpriced and see what he says.

Thank you for the input GRC, another question is = if I should drop scratch or otherwise damage the painted parts, being from Harley, will I be able to replace them with factory replacements,? this is supposed to be a limited production paint set.

Many "Limited" paint sets are no longer made, you would have to have it repaired.....offer him $11.5 and I bet you buy it!!

Those paint sets normally come in a set number, such as 100 sets, and I don't know if Harley makes any arrangements to be able to have replacement parts available for X years like they do with the CVO parts.  Btw, the prices I listed didn't factor in a custom paint set; those are the numbers for a regular 2011 Heritage Classic.  So it's not like you would be paying extra for the paint set anyway.  If you buy it, I would make sure the insurance company knows and acknowledges the bike has custom paint.  Otherwise they would likely only cover repairs based on the standard paint job.

Without seeing the bike to inspect in person, we would have to base value on your description.  From that description, the price the seller wants for this "11 Heritage seems to be as Jerry noted and what I would call right on the money.  Jimmy has a great suggestion....offer $11.5 and see where that goes....couldn't hurt and would make an already good deal a great one.

Good luck on your decision and keep us posted.... :2vrolijk_21:
