Tire Life
« on: March 31, 2015, 11:24:55 AM »

Just interested in what mileage people are getting out of their tires? I am still on the OEM tires at the moment and I am pretty pleased with them to be honest. Completed 4,500 km and no serious sign of wear, front or rear. Ride one up with minimal additional weight, apart from me! Thanks.

Tire wear depends on many variable factors, including temperature, riding style, road surfaces, weight and time.  I'm sure I've left some out.  Having said that, I got 17,000 (27,359 km) out of my last set of Dunlops on the 2009 SERG.   Mostly single, 180 lbs.

I think road surface has more to do with it than any other single item. I spend many miles on the backroads....what we call tar & gravel. Bout 8k on the rear, twice that on the front.

Front and rear factory Dunlops cupped before they were worn out.  Replaced about 16-17k.

Thanks, encouraging, my riding is mostly on well sealed roads as long as I dodge the potholes!

Tread life on the rear is irrelevant for me- cupping starts after a few thousand miles  >:(

Can't wait until Dunlop releases their 18" American elite rear this summer- hopefully solves the cupping issue.

About 15 to 17K miles on the rear running Dunlop or Pirelli.  20K (Dunlop) to 30K (Metzler) miles on the front before cupping.  Have run different Dunlop, Michelin, Pirelli, and Metzler over the last 96K miles.  Metzler are the best; great feel, wet traction, and wear.  NO cupping on the rear, but fronts "step" until they start whining.  Just like all of the other brands.  I'm sticking with the Metzler for now.

09 SERG was getting 18-20K on a rear.  12 SERG was getting 17-18 on a rear.  My 13 SERK replacing tire now with 14,530 on rear.

All three same roads.  The King I am sure due life is much shorter as it has a built motor.
