Picture/measurements for VH slip ons?
« on: January 06, 2007, 04:43:44 PM »

Having decided on these slip ons, just want to see how far they extend out beyond the bags on this bike.  I will be using the stock head pipes.  Are the slips adjustable at all relative to how far they extend back?  I have never used them before, so please excuse the ignorance. [smiley=nervous.gif]

Can anyone measure how far the stock pipes extend beyone the mounting bracket under the bags?  I just want to make sure they are long enough, but not too long, for these CVO bikes.

For you RH owners, how are do the Rineharts extend back beyond the clamps/brackets?

Thanks Al.  That may be a good place to start.

Can anyone give me the measurments of the stock muffs or some other type of slip ons they already a have installed on their RK's?  Again, just want to make sure they don't hang back way too far.

Hoist,  How about the length of those S&S's?

I wish you asked this yesterday morning. Mine are in and at my friend's shop. I would have measured them for you when I was out there yesterday. It's a bit of a ride from my house and I probably won't be back there until I have them installed. Hopefully That'll be real soon now! ;) Hoist!  8-)

My S&S mufflers are 30" long (measured along the top) and they project 3.5" back from the rear of the saddlebags on my SEEG

I did have a little difficulty when fitting them to get them to push far enough onto the exhaust pipes and in fact they could do with sliding forward another 1" or so to sit midway on the mounting bar (in the rubber bush below the saddlebag)

As it is they are kinda to the back end of that sliding bar.

When they are off next (Cams and Oil pump) I will grind down some of the weld inside the muffler and see if that helps.

I guess I need to take a photo?  [smiley=worthless.gif]

Cheers

OK here's some pics of the S&S SPO's on the bike

First the overhang at the back - not a big problem for me since I have a towbracket fitted

You can see how the mufflers fill out the space under the saddlebag

And finally how they mount on the bracket - as you see there's room for at least an inch of forward movement

In fact when I first fitted them I was in a hurry to run them - No? Really?  ;D and was getting a real bad vibe through them and onto the lower saddlebag rai.

Not surprising when you remember they are clamped tight to the engine which is shaking around so where the touched the frame I got a vibro ride big time   [smiley=nervous.gif]

Like I said I really need to get to work with a small grinder or rotary file or something - the job's just too big for a dremel I think  ;)

There's nothing much inside that'll get in the way of the exhaust pipe - you can see right through these babies

Cheers

Are the  V & H slips mounted the same way, i.e. able to adjust a few inches on how far forward or backward you want them mounted?  Never had them before, so excuse the  ignorance. :-/

 UKDave,

My mother is full blooded Welsh (war bride), so I guess that makes me half Welsh.  I think I could even compete for the Welsh Olympic team, if they had one ;D

UKDave, what kind of trailer hitch do you have there, or did you make your own?
