Passengers way too close
« on: April 09, 2015, 10:15:32 PM »

I am wondering if there is a way to get my wife's backrest moved back about 4 inches. If there is nothing on the market would anyone be interested in purchasing a set I design and machine? I am a master machinist and engineer, I would like to have y'all's input on this.

Thanks again,

You don't say what model you've got.  There is some adjustability stock on both the older and newer models.  Also kits already on the market.  No need to reinvent the wheel on that one.  Check George Anderson or Kuryakyn.

George Anderson's is for a tour pack and the kuryakyn is just for the angle. The one I am now developing is to move the physical location of the backrest back 4 inches

Be very careful... the further you put weight behind the rear axle changes the dynamics of how the bike handles... get enough weight behind the axle it will feel like the front end is floating. :nervous:

Like when I loaded up for Sturgis in 2013. Ol lady, tour pak, and saddlemen bag on top of the tour pak. She gets a bit light up front!

I found out the same thing on a trip to Sturgis... first long distance, multi-day trip on a motorcycle... packed like I was driving my cage... shipped clothes back twice during the trip. When I left home felt like the front wheel was floating w/very little contact. :shocked2:
