clutch derby cover
« on: September 21, 2004, 08:19:01 PM »

My orange paint is coming off of my primary derby cover that says Screaming Eagle. Dealer is replacing it.  Talked to another o/b SEEg owner.  He also had his back wheel replaced because of chrome coming off.  He does not go on this website.    What happens when our warranty expires????????? Same problem.  Second washing and off comes the paint on the derby cover.  HD dealer warrantied the problem here without a hiccup.  A good friend with the same bike SEEG avoided the problem by coating the orange paint on all of the applications with Z-Poxy using an extra fine artists brush.  Z-Poxy is a crystal clear two part epoxy that can be purchased in most any fishing tackle store (Bass Pro at all locations) and is thin enough to use with a brush.  Commonly, it is used to build "bulletproof" saltwater flys and baits, but is also used to coat outdoor advertising lettering in extremely harsh climates. (I guess thats here since we seem to be having a weekly hurricane!) [smiley=thumbsdown.gif] In looking at it on the HD, it is impossible to tell the lettering has been coated except for the fact that the lettering appears brighter against the chrome.  Doing mine today.

To my pleasant surprise I walked in the dealer and told him the paint was peeling, he took a glance at the bike (derby cover) and ordered me a new one.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Took a close look at my derby cover after reading this post.  Yep, mines peeling too.  The local Harley dealer ordered me one, but, it's on backorder.........
