Stock cams in 09' SERG and 11' SERG Ultra
« on: April 13, 2015, 08:07:49 AM »

Who can tell me the difference.
A few years ago I rode buddy's 09' with pipes breather and a download.
Now I've got my own CVO bike, an 11' RG Ultra. It's stock except for slip-ons.
I'm having a hard time believing my bike will go like his bike did with just headers, breather and mapping?
Maybe I'm missing something?

The same cams are used in all the CVO110 engines, from 2007 to present.  There have been refinements in the calibrations (tune) over the years that can account for differences in how the bikes run, and some minor changes in final drive ratio.  Otherwise nothing specific jumps out as a reason for performance differences other than regular variation.

I have a 2010 SESG, and after adding a header, new baffles, and a better tune, the performance improvement was very noticible.

It's not likely your RGUltra will run as fast as the '09, since the '11 has the extra weight of a KTP, TP rack and mount, lower fairings, CB module, XM radio module, rear speakers, passenger backrest, rear amplifier, and probably the weight of the wiring to interconnect all of this.

Even so, your bike will probably run much better without the catalytic converter and with an appropriate header, mufflers, and tune.

51 pounds is what the weight difference is. Mind you, replacing the mufflers and header probably shaved some weight.
Clearly, I'm going to have to do something about this. It would seem as if pipes, breather and a retune would be well worth the money spent.

Pipe will make a big difference and bring down the heat when done with a proper DYNOTUNE ( not just download. Research what tuners are available to you in your area and what tuner they prefer to work with. If no local tuners, consider giving Jamie a call at Fuel Moto. They have a large library of canned maps. Fuel Moto also makes a great beanpole that uses the stock heat shield if you want to keep stock look. If you plan ride to Michigan you could always have them do a custom tune.
Another option is a tuner based in Burlington and Hamilton area named DYNOTUNES. They have a shop but also a mobile dunk and may be heading your way this summer. Contact there is Bruce Roy. He does all the work on my bike.
