2014 cvo roadking engine issues
« on: April 13, 2015, 10:34:56 AM »

hey all so I got a couple questions for all you cvo road king owners out there I have a 2014 cvo king and ever since I bought the bike during stop and go riding this thing will out of the blue back fire thru the filter and stall out I took it in for service and they said it was because it was in "parade" mode so we shut off parade mode and I went about with it of course it got colder out and didn't ride it very much due to working on it suspension wise putting air ride on it. I broke it out and have kina been riding it and again it has done it twice in the week last time was in traffic and right as traffic starts to take off and the clutch is released with throttle boom back fire and stall ok that was close almost got hit. :-[ rode it out and went on then on Saturday went to church with the wife and siting in traffic leaving the parking lot went to take off again and guess what boom back fire and stalled so yesterday Sunday I dropped it off at Harley and told them fix it I wont be back to pick it up till its fixed if you need to ride it hard or do what ever just fix it I then told the guy look I have been riding bikes all my life in the state of new Mexico I got my license at age 13 for 100cc and below at 15 got mu license for the big bikes and was racing dirt bikes since I was 8 so as far as riding and knowing how to shift take off etc I got that down 26 years ago has any one else seen this concern on there road king or is it just mine like I stated before if you don't rev the sh!t out of it to take off in stop and go and I mean 1500rpm it will back fire and stall normal take of your a sitting duck. the other concern I dropped it off for was for when braking I could hear a clunk noise from the from fork/fender/brake but couldn't find anything loose to cause the concern I will see what they say about that concern. thanks for hearing me out on my little fiasco  :nixweiss:

Is the bike still completely stock?  If it is, then Harley needs to fix it.  This is a safety defect, plain and simple, and if the dealership doesn't take care of it you need to contact H-D directly and file a complaint, making sure you let them know it has stalled in traffic and it's a safety problem.

As for the EITMS (it's not parade mode, but many call it that), you shouldn't have to turn that system off to eliminate a stall either.  It only kicks in at idle with the bike sitting still and the ambient temperature at 80°F or higher.  It's a system meant to improve rider comfort, but many people in hot climates have turned it off since the new bikes went to the 80°F ambient trigger rather than the older models engine temperature trigger.

I agree that the EITMS has nothing to do with the problem you are experiencing. While they are fixing the real problem, I would make the goof balls turn my EITMS back on.

No single factor will bring this on. It takes FOUR and if any one of those is not in place..NO EITMS. Look in the owners manual under engine idle temperature managent sytem to see just how flawed turning this off really is.

I don't have the road King but I think the CVO 110 is the same.  I have the EITMS on all the time and the only challenge is you need to give it a quick flip of throttle to take off from a stop when it is engaged. This just helps have a smoother start and eliminates any lag. The bike has never backfired as you described even if I take off without the throttle flip to get both cylinders going.  As stated it sounds dangerous especially when starting off with two people. It is hard to manage a stalled bike like that!  I am interested in hearing what the dealer says.

+1,
my 2014 CVO RK has the same clunk you describe as does my friends CVO Ultra. Doesn't do it all the time, tech says he can't find anything wrong. My guess it's caliper related, brake shoes maybe.

Mine isnt totally stock as in theres a tuner onboard and upgraded baffles and slip-ons.  If my map wasnt right, it stuttered like that too.  Makes a horrible sound through the intake and sometimes it dies.  We adjusted the map at the low end to give it more fuel and the problem totally went away.!
Just my 2 cents..

I have yet to have a problem in over 5,000 km, some of it hard mountain pass work. I ran it stock for the first 2,500 and had a pipe and tuner fitted and dynoed. Ran very well stock and even better post tune. I agree with the comments made, this is just wrong and needs to be fixed by the dealer urgently.
