« on: April 15, 2015, 11:05:52 PM »

I have a 2014 rk cvo and it seems like it runs into a governed at 190kph even if it is still acceling pretty good it just stops my last bike a 2008 cvo dyna did not do this is this a new thing and how do you get rid of it? Anyone else having this problem maybe us bikes don't have it.

There is no "governor" that I'm aware of, and a Canadian bike is the same as a US spec bike when it comes to the powertrain.

A speed of 190 kph translates to 118 mph for those who aren't of the metric persuasion.  What exactly makes you think that a Road King should run faster than that?  Is the bike modified from stock?  And you can't compare a Road King to a Dyna.  There is a major difference in weight, aerodynamic drag, gearing, etc..

As mentioned by grc above but I also wonder if you are reaching a rev limiter on rpms?

That's exactly what it sounds like the problem would be to me too. :drink:

If it's the rev limiter, then I'd suggest shifting a couple more times and get out of fourth gear.   ;D

Seriously, the bike isn't going to run faster unless it's modified.  The cams as we all know are heavily biased to low end torque, and they fall flat on their face over 4000 rpm.  Look at any stock dyno chart and observe the steep drop in torque and horsepower.

Elvis II is heavily modified pushing 124 ftlbs and 113 hp and also running an SE6  and the design of the bike pretty much limits it to somewhere around 120. I agree with Jerry dude, you're going as fast as thar RK is gonna go unless you do some aerodynamic mods to it

You've hit the "your going too damned fast wall" LOL!!!   Seriously there is no way a stock or even mildly modified engine with the newer 6 speed HD would ever hit the rev limiter in 6th gear! Not even close.
Now, if you have a highly modified 124 at 150+hp, well, that's a maybe!! Newer bikes are geared far too tall to come close.

I am sure thou are not liking the responses you are getting but I think they are telling you the truth. A HD is like a flying bumble bee. It is an anomaly that it is even going over 110mph. A big fat tire bike with a front end like a bucket on a dozer flying through the air with the grace of a flying frog. My hoped up CVO Fatbob will max out around 125mph and the tourers are lucky to get over 115. None of them are really safe at that speed for any length of time as they are not designed for high speed.

Well-said! At triple-digit speed, you're producing a great deal of drag......

Not the rev limiter only about 4250 ish hard to tell exactly at that speed but it still feels like it is accelerating pretty good then it falls on its face at 190 I don't think it has powered out it feels like the power cuts off once you hit the speed and it's always consistantly 190 so it seemed wierd and I do have some mods just stage one with a tune but I don't think power is the issue

I asked my dealer but they didn't think there was a speed limiter Ither but nobody knew for sure they pretty much laughed and said nobody has had that issue but not many people try to ride that fast. It would be interesting to see if any other Canadian bikes have noticed this. I'll know for sure next week after my 113 kit is done if it still won't go over 190kph something is f$%*ed I would hope it would hit the rev limiter with the 113 kit should be at about 230kph or 140 mph

There is a speed limiter, I've seen it on a dyno several times son fly by wire bikes. PAnd like all other things Harley it seems to vary from bike to bike.

I know my RG will pull harder in 5th gear on top end, it will peg the speedo way before red line in 5th gear. Give it a try you will be surprised at your findings
