HD Cheaped-Out Behind the Saddlebag
« on: January 09, 2007, 01:36:08 AM »

I noticed that the '07 SERK has a standard, 1 pc. rear rotor. Not a floating rotor. Just an observation. You would think it would be a floating rotor, even if it's nothing fancy, to match the fronts. But they have wheel-matching ones as an accessory. How convenient. I'm not sure they fit the SERK's 17" wheel though!

I also noticed that the rear brake hose is rubber, not Braided SS like the fronts. I checked the catalog and couldn't find a rear SS brake line as an accessory either. I don't think I missed it, but... ::)  Is this on all FLH SE's or just SERK's? Anyone know where to get the rear Braided SS brake line?

Thanks, Hoist! 8-)

I think we have to wait for that one ,,  thats a funky brake switch/hose 1 piece rear.  you would have thought they would have been consistant with the stainless. the rotor i understand but to have only one rubber hose??? a little bean-counterish for me :'(

We might be waiting awhile Gene. They don't seem to offer that for any year Touring bike from, what I saw. The RoadWinder Rotor might not work either with the 17" wheel. There's a hub plate to use on a 17' Duece wheel, but I'm not sure what they do with the RoadWinder 17" wheel from the SERK.

Installed the Road Winder floating rotor and the chrome axle spacer. They both fit. Just be carefull account brake caliper bolts stick out on backside of caliper very easy to scratch the wheel.

Hey Brad, I'm not sure what you're referring to. The catalog says the 17" Deuce wheel requires "Brake Rotor Hub Plate P/N 43837-00" Is that part you mean? I thought the '07 SERK's come with chrome axle spacers. If not, what parts did you use? Also, did you do anything with the rear brake line? Thanks. Hoist! 8-)

Howie,

Haven't seen a rear line for recent model year FLH, but you could always have some made up to your custom length.  And while you're at it, get a chrome brake pressure switch to replace the fugly stock piece:  http://www.jbrake.com/PROFAB/products_brake.htm

Thanks, Jerry, that's something to look at down the road. Right now, that's some Warranty voiding chrome you got there! (just kidding d00d) ::) Nice looking part. Making your own rear brake line's not so bad. But I found a complete rear replacement kit. Anyone familiar with Goodridge? They make a "High End clear-coated Braided SS brake line kit" for '97-'06 FLH,FLT's. Are the '07s the same as the earlier models? This kit includes everything except the BL switch (including the block), which you would reuse the existing. It's P/N HD0057-2RCH. It needs to be confirmed that it's good for '07s.

http://www.goodridge.net/usa/pdf/motorcycle/Goodridge_HD2006BK_apps.pdf

I spoke to them and they have not confirmed that it's good for '07s or CVO's since they haven't checked these applications. They said that as long as the parts are the same as standard '97-'06 then it will work.  Can someone confirm that an '07 SERK uses the standard '97-'06 FLH/FLT rear brake line?

Also, I'm looking to confirm what parts are required for the HD Road Winder Floating Rotor, P/N 44706-03 to work with an '07 SERK 17" wheel and if the Brake Rotor Hub Plate, P/N 43837-00 is required. Or any other parts for that matter.

I also thought the chrome rear axle spacers are included on an '07 SERK. Anyone know? If not, does 41163-04, Chrome Rear Wheel Spacer Kit work with this bike's wider rear wheel?

I'd like to have the rear brakes set up like the front. I'm sure there are others out there looking to do the same. TIA! Hoist! 8-)

Howie, I have used the goodridge coated, colored hoses many times and found them to be a quality piece.  they are made in italy and used on hi end sports cars and many racing species. Personally i havnt looked at the BL switch replacement as the oem one is quite small and neatly hidden. I am gonna wait a few yrs and catch all the brake pm/upgrade and extract as much from the factory stuff first. The way i see it whoa-ing a 900# bike isnt gonna get to fineseful . but  then there is the chrome factor....Hmmmm [smiley=nervous.gif]

Thanks Gene. HD doesn't seem to want to make this for FLH/FLTs as they've never offered anything for that yet. So I don't mind using the Goodridge. They do make the rotor I like, since it matches the rear wheel. And if the rear wheel doesn't have chrome spacers, when changing the rotor is the time to do it. I just want to confirm the correct parts so I "do it right the first time"! ;) Hoist!  8-)

For all of you facing this dilemma I believe the MoCo started doing this on the FLHTCUSE's w/o matching up the rear rotor. I know my bike came w/the matching rotors all the way around, but had the chitty looking pulley that didn't match the wheels/rotors. Of which you all knowing my OCD/SEO had to be replaced/upgraded appropriately. Good luck in your endeavors to get all the matching parts for your scooters.

Thanks so much Brad. This makes things easier. If that Goodridge BL is correct, I'll do the rotor, spacers and Braided SS BL at the same time. Probably at 1K. Last thing, can anyone confirm that '07 SERK Rear Brakeline is identical to '06 FLH/FLT's? Thanks. Hoist! 8-)

You mean you're actually going to unhook the rear brake line and not install the chrome rear master cylinder at the same time  :o ?
