Opinion's needed
« on: January 09, 2007, 08:20:46 PM »

Ok,
I have a HD shifter linkage on my bike (take off from Hank's bike)......BB gave me a two of a kind, custom made Screamin' Eagle 3/4" hex linkage.  I had it polished and have been tossing it around for a whiile (BTW,  the other one no longer exists,  so I guess it's one of a kind)......what do you guy's think????  Which one would you use........
Got one concern,  it's heavy.......real heavy and I've noticed that the MoCo "hogs" out the backs of the new ones (why?????  Don't know).  Look at the pics.....and as usual,  I'd rather have the doodad that no one else has,  but if it's gonna be a maintenance issue....why bother.

since my stock linkage has developed a nice rattle, id stay away from somthing heavy, it will wear out quicker

like the holes in the linkage are slowly getting rounded out, at least thats my impression of whats happening, if i reach down and put my hand on it the rattle stops

Do you think it's weight related????  Or just a worn part (as usual)??

I'd use the hex linkage. Maybe paint in the lettering to match the bike.

It would be a more personal touch if it read Screamin' Beagle [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

since its the original, after 36k i think its worn but that leads me to think a heavier linkage would wear quicker

Grover,
Good idea,  I have an old Bridgeport at work,  but you gotta have a CNC for the lettering.  I like the idea,  may be worth the R&D.

I had the same thing going on. Check to see if there's any left to right movement on the splined shaft that the foot controls connect to.

If there is it's an easy fix.

Remove the hex bolt from the linkage side of shaft. Then pull the shaft out of primary casing. Get the appropriate sized nylon washer to slide over shaft between primary casing and linkage lever. Lightly grease up the splined shaft and reinstall with nylon washer. The washer prevents the metal to metal contact...no more rattle.

I used a nylon washer from a kitchen faucet set, can't even tell it's on there, and now it's better than when it was new [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Give'r a try, it worked for me :)
